R.O.S.E: A RWBY Fanfiction

The Huntsman Wannabe: Part One

A transgender thirteen year old boy is walking through the forest in the middle of a blizzard. Night has fallen and the evil grim lurking around the forest become attracted to the boys negative thoughts and emotions, fore he hates the freezing cold temperatures. Then the boy stops, pulls the weapon strapped to his back which is a hybrid between a massive scythe and a gun off, and charges towards the first grim he sees. He jumps, points the barrel end of his weapon towards the ground, and fires it sending him around twenty feet up in the air. Gravity pulls him back down above his target where he thrusts the blade of his scythe into the skull of the grim, killing it. Another grim creature charges towards the boy from his right. Before it could land an attack on him. He fires his weapon towards the grim, stopping it dead in it's tracks. Yet another grim attacks the boy from behind this time knocking him out cold. Before it could deliver the killing blow, A Red Ridding Hood like figure wielding a giant red scythe similar to the boy's runs towards him and cries out his name, "Riley!"

Then a blinding white light emits from her silver eyes instantly turning the grim to stone, killing it. The light dies down and the woman picks Riley up and carries him out of the scene.

Riley wakes up in his bed with the morning sunlight bouncing off of his face through the bedroom window beside him. Shirtless and all bandaged up from his breasts to his lower torso, He gets out of bed, walks out of his bedroom and into the living room. There he sees his mother, Ruby Rose sitting on the sofa with her arms crossed; and taping her right foot on the wooden floor. Ruby then stands up and walks over to Riley and says furiously, "What were you DOING out there all alone so late last night?!"

Riley briefly ignores his mother standing before him and walks over to the kitchen which is across the living-room from him. The whole house is modelled like a cabin both inside and outside.

Don't you walk away from me!" Says Ruby as she follows her son across the living-room and into the kitchen. Riley opens the refrigerator door and grabs a carton of milk; before rummaging around one of the cabinets. He pulls out a tall glass, slams the cabinet door, sets the glass on the counter, and pours the milk out of the carton and into the glass. He then sets the milk carton on the counter; and picks up his glass of milk.

'"Your only alive because I spent the past four hours searching for you last..." Riley cuts Ruby off by chugging down all of his milk right in front of her before slamming the glass back down on the counter.

'You wanna know why I did what I did, ok fine! I did what I did because I wanted to see if I had what it took to become a huntsman." Says Riley

'How many times do we have to go over this, your NOT becoming a huntsman! you know your bad luck charm is a hazard to both yourself and those around you."

'I'm tired of being treated like a child and having to be supervised everywhere I go."

"Riley regardless of what you think, I'm not letting what happened to Uncle Qrow happen to you," Ruby replies.

Riley yells at Ruby, "Uncle Qrow was an alcoholic who got too drunk to protect himself from a Lowely street thug!"

Ruby slaps Riley across the face with her right hand, gasps, then pulls her right hand back to her chest and grasps her right forearm with her left hand for she is in deep shock and disbelief of what she had just did. Ruby then looks down in shame and a brief pause ensues between mother and son for what feels like an hour. Tears begin to run down from Ruby's eyes.

"Mom what are you gonna do when your dead? You can't protect me forever," Says Riley before storming out of the kitchen, back through the living-room, and into his bedroom. Ruby leans front first against the counter crying. Then her father Taiyang, a man in his fifty's walks over and stands at the kitchen doorway grasping both sides of the doorframe and says, "You know, you and I were like this when you decided that you wanted to become a huntress." Ruby uses her left arm to wipe the tears off of her face. She turns to face her father and replies by saying, "At least I was able to hold my own in a fight, especially against grim."

"He's already made up his mind." Tai walks over to Ruby and rests both of his hand on her shoulders. "The best thing you can do for him right now is to have him be professionally trained to become a huntsman. I know Riley becoming a huntsman scares the ever living hell out of you but..." Ruby hugs his father Tai.

After a short period of time, Ruby walks up to Riley's bedroom door and knocks three times.
"Riley, about hitting you earlier. I'm sorry. Can I come in?" After hearing no reply, Ruby barges into Riley's bedroom only to feel the freezing cold air; and see that her son is nowhere to be seen. Riley had run off leaving behind an open window.
