I am taken into a room that looks like a dining room and by the looks of it, they actually have food. There are simple decorations such as little pottery statues, and candles. There is a rectangle wooden table in the centre of the room with one short, fat candle as the centrepiece.

There are three people already in the room. The two girls from the door and a guy who is sitting at the table. They all look at me like I'm a whole new species. Sophie points to each of the people in the room listing their names.

"That's Maddie," she points to the shorter girl who waves at me.

"That's Cheyenne," (pronounced shy-Anne) she points to the taller girl who nods slightly at me.

"Call me Chey," she says.

"That there is Michael," she points to the guy and he smiles at me.

"There's one more but I think he's out?" She says like a question turning to Chey who nods.

"I call dibs giving the Grand Tour!" Maddie screams loudly before Chey shushes her. Maddie rolls her eyes and Sophie laughs. Maddie walks over to me and grabs my forearm and drags me through the door into the next room.

Maddie is short and very petite. Her blonde hair is pulled back in a ponytail out of her face. She's wearing a gold-yellow t-shirt that says Yeah Right on it and black leggings. I remember when people beore the apocalypse were always arguing over whether leggings were pants or not. I always thought they weren't counted as pants. I mean, they were invented to wear under skirts, or shorts even, to keep your legs warm. But I guess things like that don't matter anymore. People are lucky to find decent clothing at all.

Maddie looks at me quizzically, wondering what I'm thinking about. I just stare at her and wait for her to say something. I think I'm creeping her out. She shakes her head slightly and puts a smile on her face.

"So this is the lounge room," she almost yells. "It's where we lounge, I guess." I wince at her loud voice. Some people just love the world to know what they're saying, don't they? I scope the room to see two simple brown couches facing each other with a table inbetween them. There is also a piano placed against the wall to my right. Typical. There was always a piano in those post-apocalyptic movies. I never knew why, though.

I walk over to the piano and let my fingers brush over the dusty keys. It's beautiful. There is something that is so elegant about pianos. I admire the light brown colour of the glossed wood.

"Does anyone play?" I barely whisper. Maddie stalls before she answers, probably because I actually spoke. It only takes a few seconds for her to be back to normal.

"Yeah!" she shouts. "Well, kinda. Sophie knows how to play, but she's pretty crap!"

"IT'S NOT MY FAULT THE THING IS OUT OF TUNE!" Someone, who I assume is Sophie, shouts from the dining room. Maddie chuckles before standing next to me, looking at the piano before turning to face me.

"Can you play?" she asks, still yelling. Doesn't this girl know how to be quiet?! Apparently not.

I nod slightly in reply to her question and step away from the instrument.

"You should play us something, sometime!" She exclaims. I just nod and start walking to the door that seems to lead to another room.

"Hey!" Maddie calls. "I'm giving the Grand Tour! You can't just do it for yourself!" The next thing I know, I've been pushed to the side and Maddie is infront of me again.

The tour lasts for a good fifteen minutes more before Maddie decides she's shown me every possible thing she could. She even showed me a small hole that she found in the wall in one of the corners of one of the bedrooms claiming that in that moment she discovered it, she "found her true inner soul." Now, I'm not sure if she was being sarcastic... But either way I spent the rest of the tour planning my escape.

Once the tour is over we head back to the dining room where the others are sitting. Michael and Sophie smile at me and Chey just states at me. She's kind of scary.

"How was the 'Grand Tour'?"Michael asks, doing air-quotations when he said 'Grand Tour'.

"It was great!" Maddie yells.

"Let the girl answer for herself, you loud poo," Sophie says. Maddie walks over to her and play slaps her cheek. Sophie plays along, fake gasping and rubbing her cheek dramatically. they both break into a fit of giggles.

The moment is broken by someone knocking on the door.
"Adam's here!" both Maddie and Sophie scream, running to answer the door. Cheyenne rubs her forehead and squeezes her eyes shut.
"Sometimes I wonder how we are even alive," she mutters.

Maddie and Sophie return, followed by a tall boy with dark hair. He's carrying a large bag which he dumps onto the table, knocking over the candle.
"DAMMIT ADAM!" Maddie screams. "THAT CANDLE WAS STRATEGICALLY PLACED ON THE TABLE IN THAT SPECIFIC SPOT FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE CITIZENS OF THIS HOUSEHOLD!"
"Enough with the big words," Sophie complains, rubbing her head exactly like Chey did before.
"You're smart," Chey comments.
"I haven't schooled for over six months. my brain is not prepared for this use of words," Sophie whines. Maddie and Michael laugh and Chey slightly smiles. Well... That's a first.

The guy who is apparently named Adam looks at me.
"And who are you?" he asks not unkindly.
"Alice," I say, shaking his hand. he nods and moves the bag on the table closer to him. He looks over to Sophie and Maddie who have both placed their bag on the table.
"Let's look at today's haul," he grins.
