John had been suffering from depression since witnessing Charlie 'die'. He had picked up drinking and smoked heavily. He had put on weight, not much, but to his friends, he was definitely bigger. He had been taking one of his late night walks when Jessica stepped out of the car that drove past.
"John?" She said, running down the road in high heels, "what are you doing out here looking like this?" She said ruffling his hair. She noticed a smell, a bitter smell, coming from John. "You smell of alcohol." Jessica said, crinkling her nose up slightly.
"No shit." He said, "I was drinking it earlier." He got out a cigarette and lit it.
"Marla will have something to say about it." She said, joking, with a hint of seriousness in her voice.
"Why?" He asked.
"She's a med student dumbass."
"Oh ok, well she ain't gunna like me then." He said, sighing.
"John, I don't know what that night did to you, but she's missing you." Jessica said, "we all are."
"It's not her Jessica, she's not my Charlie." John said, "She's not the same, she looks the same but somethings off. I don't know how you all don't see it, she even acts differently"
"Well John, if your going to be like that, go back to your lifestyle, you continue on like this, you'll be dead in the next 10 years." Jessica said, "you are still invited though, Clay's house, tomorrow. We'll all be there. Carlton and Lamar miss you John."
"Well, thanks for that Jessica," John said, annoyed, "I don't want to come."
Jessica grabbed his arms and rocked him slightly. She looked deep into his blue eyes and squeezed his arms.
"Ok maybe." He said, rolling his eyes.
"That's good enough for me!" She exclaimed, "see you there!" She got in her car and drove off with a slight wheel spin.
"I said maybe" John said, turning around and putting his cigarette to his lips."
