Prompt: Dan is a soldier fighting overseas and Phil is home alone for yet another Christmas Eve.
Phil sniffled as Dan ended the video call. "Bye, Merry Christmas, I love you, Phil!"
"I love you too," murmured Phil, although Dan has already hung up and couldn't hear. Glancing at the time, 7:04 PM, it was obvious he would have to spend a Christmas alone.
Phil didn't bother with putting out decorations this year; other than a couple presents from his family sitting on the bar, there was no other evidence in the apartment that it was nearly Christmas. It was better that way. Phil could pretend Dan had only been gone for a couple days, not nine months. He could pretend Dan wouldn't miss their favorite holiday, not to mention their anniversary.
Phil went to sleep early that night, as crying took a lot of his energy.

Somehow, probably due to subconsciously sensing that it was Christmas, Phil awoke much earlier than usual. 8:35 AM.
Stumbling into the lounge, he squinted at the florescent lighting strung around the room. He hadn't put that there. Nor had he set up the Christmas tree, or lovingly placed so many presents beneath it. He wasn't the one who had strung winter-themed decor everywhere, or made a plate full of warm gingerbread cookies on the coffee table. Phil had not hung two stockings above a crackling fire, had not filled them to the brim with sweets and trinkets.
"Merry Christmas, Philly."
Phil could only turn, a smile on his lips and tears in his eyes, to see the love of his life on one knee, nervousness and excitement and many other expressions mingling upon his features, clutching a silken box flipped open to display the dazzling ring.
That felt cute just writing it uwu
Little short, but I guess that's the point.
