Little Sister Song is book 1 of the Wynter Wild series about a teenager, Wynter, who had a rough start in life and suddenly finds herself in the "real world" for the first time. Wynter and her three older brothers share point-of-view chapters. While the boys' lives are turned upside-down by the arrival of a little sister they never knew existed, their lives also go on as usual in many ways -- school, work, girlfriends, rock bands, and a negligent alcoholic father who's made their lives miserable. Overprotective one day, clueless the next. Nothing will ever be the same.
Main characters:
Caleb (24) "In this family, we tell the truth."
Caleb practically raised his younger brothers and provided the guidance their useless father never could. One brother accepted that guidance, the other... not so much. Caleb's a petty officer in the Coast Guard, based in Seattle, an upstanding member of the community, his girlfriend's parents' dream come true, and handy with a wrench. Don't argue with this guy. And don't ask him to show his emotions. He doesn't like that.
Indio (22) "I don't get up on Sundays."
Indio is a talented artist and guitarist, struggling through his senior year at Portland State after Ohio threw him out. He's the frontman for indie rock band Blunderbelly. You won't have heard of them. He'd rather pull his own teeth than come home for Thanksgiving or date the same girl twice. He's a bit messed up.
Jesse (18) "I hate to think you might accidentally find yourself in a microgravity environment and not understand the physics of what was going on."
Jesse is a freshman at the University of Washington, living at home with Caleb. He is right about everything and has a rant for every occasion. He likes to retrain his girlfriends to think exactly like him. (They don't last long.) While annoying you with his relentless logic, drum practice, and YouTube subscriber count updates, he somehow remains completely adorable.
Wynter (14) "What is a guinea pig?"
Wynter appears on her brothers' doorstep one winter's evening eager to wash her past down the bathtub drain. In Caleb's house she's finally found home. Jesse has the facts and figures she needs to survive in the outside world, and Indio (if he can roll out of bed in time) bonds with her over music.
It can't last.

Notes:
I've written several books in this series -- stand by for quite a ride as Wynter navigates the outside world, foster care, high school, Pop-Tarts, power chords, three very different brothers trying to understand her, and a sister who always has more important things to do. We therefore start in the year 2013 (so we don't end up in the future!).
An "ashram" is a religious retreat, in this case a new age (hippie) commune.
The story is set mostly in the state of Washington in the Pacific northwest, starting in January.
US High School begins with ninth grade.
Xay (Wynter's Australian friend from the ashram) is pronounced Zay.
