The next morning, Zayn sat in his bedroom as he ate the bowl of cereal that his mother had brought to him before she left for work. Usually his father would stay home but he had an appointment today, so he was home by himself which he was thankful for.
Being blind made it so that his parents were always around, which most times he was grateful for, but sometimes he liked to have time alone with himself and do things for himself without the help of anyone. The only person he would accept help from was Louis because he only ever helped him when he wanted to go into the water, he only helped him twice though. Every other time the man would bring him back to his house where his parents would scold him and then thank the man.
Hearing the annoyance in his parents' voice was worth it though, especially if it meant he could be in the water and be around someone that wasn't family.
He finished his bowl of cereal and quickly made his way to the kitchen, he was so familiar with his house from being in it all of the time that he could easily move around it. He placed the bowl in the sink, then turned when he heard the doorbell to his house ring. His eyebrows raised in surprise, no one ever came by when his parents weren't home, other than Louis.
Zayn made his way to the door, the person now gently knocking on the door. He felt the door and unlocked each of the locks, the knocking stopped once the person heard the locks turning. Zayn opened the door, a big smile coming across his face once he recognized the warmth from this person, it was Louis.
He stepped out of the way, Louis brushed passed him with a small smile on his face. He turned when he heard the door close and the locks slowly turn.
"Why're you here? N-Not that I don't w-want you here," Zayn said nervously. This time Zayn was swaying left to right, his hands interlocked behind his back as he chewed on the inside of his cheek. It was a habit that Louis noticed whenever he saw the boy, he was always chewing on the inside of his cheek and scraping his braces against the inside of his mouth by accident.
Louis stepped forward, Zayn immediately noticing once he felt the warmth of Louis increase. He didn't know why the man always came over whenever his parents weren't here, they'd always just sit in the living room and talk for about an hour before he left. He always assumed it was just to keep him company that wasn't his parents, to talk to someone that he didn't live with. Plus, they were friends and friends talked to each other every now and then. "Just had to see you, ya know?" Louis said softly, taking another step towards the kid. Zayn nodded and then grabbed Louis' hand, guiding him slowly towards the living room where they usually sat and talked.
The two sat on the couch, Zayn with his knees pulled to his chest and Louis with his legs extended outward as he relaxed. This was better than being at home, the couch was much comfier than his own and he also had the company of the cutest kid he's ever seen. "Louis, can you take me to get ice cream one day?" Zayn asked nervously, it would be the first time in a while that he'd leave the comfort of his parents' property but he wanted to leave so badly. He hoped Louis wouldn't say no because he knows his parents would say no if he asked them and they wouldn't allow him to go by hisself.
"Yeah, course. Anything for you." Louis smiled when he saw the big smile appear on Zayn's face again, his blue braces matching the pillow next time him that he was running his fingertips across. "There's this one place about a ten minute drive away, it's so good. The tables are all different pastel colors and the floors squeak when you walk on them. The floors are flat tiles that alternate between the colors white and blue."
The image began to form in Zayn's mind as he tried to think of how the place would look, he couldn't remember what a pastel green looked like so he replaced it with a pastel yellow. He liked it when Louis described things to him, although he wasn't very good at it. "Keep going!" And so Louis did, he described as best he could from the shapes of the tables to the texture of the seats to the order they set the ice creams in. Zayn turned, his eyes on Louis, he couldn't see him and that was fine as long as he could hear him. The sweet and calming voice that described anything he wanted.
"I can't wait to feel the seats, I bet they're so smooth." Zayn had scooted over closer to Louis now and he was rubbing his hands slowly, feeling every crease and memorizing the texture. He pressed the hand to his cheek and rubbed his face against the skin.
Louis could barely breathe as he watched the boy beside him, his cheeks were a soft red and his blue eyes were wide because this was the cutest shit he's ever seen. He almost pulls Zayn into his lap and presses kisses all over his face because he's so precious. "I don't think anything's as soft as your skin, though, not even water," Zayn says softly, pulling the hand from his cheek and running his index finger in between each of Louis' fingers.
Zayn was looking up at him, well not looking, but his head was tilted up and their eyes locked. Zayn could only see light and shadows, sometimes he saw the rare bits of color but he could never really see like Louis and his parents could. But as Louis stared into those brown eyes, he was sure Zayn could see him, no matter how blind the boy was, he could always see Louis.
