"why the hell is it so fucking cold here?" screamed chloe in disgust. they had only stepped off the plane seconds ago, and the blonde was already complaining about the climate of pittsburgh, pennsylvania.
"calm down chlo," said mrs. lukasiak.
she was used to chloe cursing, and didn't mind anymore.
she readjusted her other daughter, clara, on her hip, then put a pair of large sunglasses over her eyes. the young girl opened her eyes for a second and yawned, but closed them again.
"this absolutely sucks!" chloe spit, crossing her arms.
they had just flown from la to pittsburgh for christi's job, and chloe obviously wasn't happy.
"chloe elizabeth lukasiak! this will only be worse if you have a bad attitude about it!" her mother reprimanded, and the grumpy teenager rolled her eyes and scrolled through her twitter feed.
she leaned against the wall impatiently and shrugged her backpack to the floor as the suitcases spin around.
chloe finally spotted her pink suitcases, and pulled them off the belt. "let's go," she growled, and pulled her bags behind her.
"there!" she said enthusiastically, and ran over to the man with the paper sign that read "lukasiak".
they loaded their bags into the back of the taxi cab, and the driver took off down the highway.
they turned off at an exit about 20 minutes later, and down several side streets in the rural area. the driver slowed to a stop outside a medium sized house.
chloe removed her earbuds and peered out the window. "what the hell? why did we stop?" she asked, slumping back in her seat.
"we're here," the driver said sharply, and rips open chloe's side door.
"here?" the girl squealed, her eyes as wide as saucers. "mom, he has the wrong address, right?"
"no chloe, this is where we're going to live." christi stated calmly, shaking clara awake.
chloe screamed in terror and the driver rolled his eyes.
"chloe! we.... we needed a house soon and this was the only one we could find," christi said, saying the last part quietly.
she averted her eyes to look at the floor of the taxi cab. that's the first time chloe realized that they have the same nervous habit.
they both look at the floor when they tell lies.
chloe brushed it off and angrily ripped her bags from the trunk. she marched up to the red front door and swung it open, while mrs. lukasiak fished out a 20 from her purse.
"ugh! it's even smaller inside! i hate this damn house!" chloe shrieked the second she entered the foyer.
"chloe!" christi scolded, setting a now awake clara onto the hardwood floor.
"great, the brat's awake," mumbled the teen, and clunked her suitcases up the stairs, complaining about the ugly shade of the carpet all the while.
chloe claims the bigger of the two bedrooms (aside from the master which christi gets) and throws her suitcases on the floor.
she examined the room. it wasn't big, to her hatred, but something about it seemed... inviting.
instead of the hot pink color of her old room, the walls were painted a light shade of green. there was darkish wood, and a large window that poured in light. under the window was a large windowsill converted into a seat and covered with matching pillows, which chloe could lay on. then there was a queen bed with a white bedspread and green pillows.
