The first day of travel was uneventful, they were on horseback for about seven hours. When they reached the inn, there was a group of very unfriendly looking people sitting in the corner. They seemed like Caltian soldiers but different, rude and arrogant. They were watching Myra very closely. She tried to ignore them as they ordered.

"Two beef and potato stews please and one room for the night." Myra's mother said to the bartender

"O'course ma'am, anything else you needs?" He asks in reply in a strangely monotoned voice

"No, that is all thank you" my mother replies in the same tone. It was strange both their eyes seemed glossed over, it was barely noticeable but it was there.

"Well that will be four gold coins and two silvers." The bartender says, they payed him then sit down at a table near the back.

"Well Myra, what skill do you think you will be chosen for?" Her mom asks.

"I don't know, probably a farmer or something." She said, just shrugging off the weird tones that everyone is talking in. I'm pretty normal. I don't have anything very special about me, I mean I have black hair and brown eyes, I'm fairly thin because I come from a kind of poor part of the kingdom. She thought to herself, she could find no reason for her to be chosen as anything else.

"Well I think you will be chosen as a court official." Her mom said.

"Mom! That is one of the hardest skills  to get chosen for, plus I don't think I would be a good fit." Myra was pretty sure her mother just said that to make her feel better about herself. She thought that clearly She was not a good fit for that skill, plus She hated paperwork. Being a court official requires so much paperwork. Just then a waitress arrived with the food.

"Thank you ma'am." I said as the waitress just walked off. That was strange usually waitresses are so kind and caring. But again we are in a different town so maybe people are different here. When they finished their dinner Myra's mother and her headed off to bed.

In the morning, when they went downstairs to get breakfast there was a strange vibe to the room. The air seemed thick and strange. But for the third time since they entered the inn, Myra just shrugged it off. They ordered breakfast and ate, and by mid morning they were on the road again.

As soon as they left the town everything felt normal again. Myra's mother's eyes were normal again, and her voice wasn't monotoned anymore either. Something is wrong with that town.
