happy new years . . .

{ your p.o.v }

          Unlike Christmas, New Years isn't as big of a celebration around Sunrise Residence and so the turn out for breakfast this last day of the year is pretty empty. The only ones at the dining room table being myself, Ukyo, Wataru, Yusuke, Subaru, and Iori. Everyone else is out working or simply busy.

          "So, what time are the fireworks starting tonight?" Yusuke asked, lazily playing with his breakfast as he does so.

          Ukyo didn't bother responding so I took it upon myself to, the poor platinum blonde lawyer looking more dead than usual considering crime rates tend to skyrocket during hectic holiday seasons meaning more stupid cases for him to defend in. "They should be starting right at midnight, it is New Year's after all."

          Wataru, the only one truly awake at seven in the morning, absolutely beamed with a bright smile as he hugged his rabbit stuffed animal close to his chest. "I can't wait to see the pretty fireworks tonight!" He said without a single ounce of fatigue lacing his words. Considering he stayed up so late playing racing games with Fuuto before that teen idol had to leave for his hotel, I'm impressed.

          "Should we go and watch the fireworks at the park like we did last year?" Iori asked after it became blatantly clear no one else would be willingly speaking. Honestly, it's just too early for this and we could all use an extra three hours of sleep- okay, maybe not Wataru, but he's an outlier.

          "I don't see why not." Ukyo finally spoke, his eyes just ever so slightly struggling to stay open. Those long nights spent working really are getting to him. "We could see the fireworks perfectly from there last time."

          I stifled a yawn with the back of my hand before taking a long sip of my coffee, my one and only lifeline in this cruel world. "Who's going to be coming to watch the fireworks together tonight anyways?"

          The only two people at the table who rose their hands were Yusuke and myself, everyone else more or less glancing between the two of us before looking to each other. "Oi, where do you think you're all going?" The red head asked.

          "Masa-nii is taking me to the hospital later to celebrate New Year's with the other kids." Wataru answered happily.

          "Some of the students at school are throwing a party and want me to come." Iori then said.

          Subaru nodded in agreement. "My basketball team is throwing a get together."

          "And I'll be sleeping if I even get home before midnight tonight." Ukyo then sighed. "Looks like it'll just be you two truly enjoying the first moments of this new year."

          Yusuke immediately reddened with a blush as he looked to me. All I could do was laugh at his tomato like appearance. "Yah, what's going through that dirty mind of yours kid?"

          "Kid." Yusuke spluttered. "I'm not a kid!" He then said loudly, trying to defend himself but utterly failing.

          I placed my chin onto the palms of my hands as I looked down the dining table and over to him. "Hun, you're still in high school. Talk to me again when you're at least a first year in college."

          Iori cracked a small smile at that while Ukyo just shook his head. "You do remember that you yourself are only a first year in college, correct?"

          "Still, he's a kid compared to me." I responded with an absentminded shrug of my shoulders before ruffling Wataru's hair. "Just like this lil squirt here is a kid too."
