Morning came as the moon flew to hide. It’s been five days since my last encounter with him. Sitting down, I looked out the window. The sun is so bright, and eye catching. It’s beautifully, blinding. I stretched out my arms and legs before entering the shower. The hot water cascaded down my aching back. It felt really good.
I dried my hair with a towel, hearing Bonnie’s knock as I did. Opening the door without permission, Bonnie started talking, “How dare he does that to me?! He stood me up, Caroline! I can’t believe he stood me up!”
“Kol?” I asked. She nodded. “Well, you warned me about Klaus. You should’ve been more careful with his brother. How did he stand you up?”
She sighed, “We were supposed to meet yesterday night for a movie, but he didn’t show up. I tried calling him, but it always went to voice mail. He just called now saying, ‘something terrible befell on my brother. I’m sorry,’” she says, trying to imitate the charming accent of a certain brown-haired bachelor, “then he hung up! Without another word, he hung up on me! How do I react to that?”
Brother? Which brother? Elijah? Or… Klaus? I frowned, shaking the thought out of my head. “I have to get to work. We’ll talk about it later, okay?” I gave her a brief hug before heading out the door. Work should probably get my mind off of him.
Strange enough, I haven’t been seeing Matt around lately. I wanted to tell him that I got an internship and that I was probably leaving after my first pay, but I haven’t had a glimpse of him since the dinner he walked out on me. He was the owner. He was usually around. I don’t get why he’s not anymore.
My shift ended around noon. Walking towards the exit, I saw a certain blond coming my way. I beamed, “Hey.” He didn’t look back, but returned the greeting in an engrossed manner. I followed him inside, “Seriously?”
He finally turned, looking at me, “Is that for me?
I scowl at him, “Do you see anyone else in the vicinity?” He sighed, asking me, “Do you need something?” What the hell, Matt? I didn’t really hurt a bone in you, did I? It was a mere observation. Cami really does look like me. Her blonde hair, pretty eyes, and the height aren’t that distinguishable from mine. It’s nothing to fret about.
“Are you mad at me or something?”
“No, Care. I’m not mad. I —” he couldn’t continue.
I shrugged two shoulders at him spluttering, “Well, then why are you being so weird?”
He exhaled, “I’m not. I’m working.” He’s not working! He barely comes to work and the one time he does is the one-day that the place doesn’t need him!
I spat, raising both my eyebrows at him, “You’re avoiding.”
He glared at me. I’ve never seen him like this with me before. His penetrating eyes looked into mine, as if he was eating my soul. “No. I have a supermarket to manage. You know, that’s the kind of thing that men obsessed over you do to make a living.” He walks away as I cross my arms, realizing that he has taken what I said several nights before into a serious level of comprehension.
I ran after him again, blocking his way to the office. “Look, I said something stupid. I’m sorry, but I didn’t mean to make it sound like that. It was just an observation, and I really saw the resemblance. It’s unquestionable.”
Jeremy came out from the storage room, holding a market product report in his hands. Matt walks away to sign the delivery documents that Jeremy handed to him. “No, it’s not, Caroline. Yes, I’ve had a crush on you for a very long time, but I saw Cami and I fell for her instantly. I didn’t see you in her. It was just the way she moves and talks; it’s captivating. It reminded me of something close to my heart.” He makes an expression full of disgust and glares at me, “but you just had to ruin it, didn’t you?”
