I sat in Molly's living room. I couldn't stop thinking about what Jordan had said. It was now 3 am, and I pulled out my phone. I could hear Molly upstairs with some dude she picked up. I opened my menu, and clicked new message.

To: Jordan

hey u up?

I got a ding back immediately.

From: Jordan

i am now. whats up? u ok?

I smiled. I knew he cared for me. We may fight, but I know he would always protect me. I thought about the time I got tripped by a boy in the third grade, Jordan tackled him to the ground and started beating him up. He got suspended for a month. I smiled at the memory and responded.

To: Jordan

i really need to talk to you

I sent the text, and three minutes later, Jordan was at the window. I was in some blue pajama shorts and a white v-neck now. I went to the window and opened it. He climbed in. He had obviously run here, even though he wasn't tired out at all. He pulled me close to him.

"What's wrong?" He said. I set my forehead onto his chest and sighed. He held the lower cave of my back and pulled me in tighter.  looked up at him.

"How did everything get so screwed up?" I whispered. He leaned down and kissed my forehead.

"It's really good to hear your voice, Rye." he whispered. I looked up at him and he smiled.

"When you do we have patrol?" I asked as we sat on the couch.

"Tomorrow afternoon. We patrol through Sunday." He said, sighing. Today was Monday, so after school tomorrow we patrol the forests.

"Good, I need to get out of here for a while." I reply, sighing and leaning back onto the couch. Patrol was like a vacation. We roamed the forest and everything was at ease. Jordan turned and looked at me, his eyes serious and his face stern. I sat back up.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"No one told you?" He asked, more confused now.

"No?" I said, more of a question than a statement.

"When's the last time you contacted your brother?" he asked in a hushed voice. My brother? I looked at him confused.

"Nathan was banned two years ago, Jordan." I said, my eyebrows furrowed. He looked at his hands.

"I haven't heard from him since he wrote me the week after he left." I whispered, looking at Jordan. On our territory, we didn't talk about Nathan. He was four years older than me an was bound to lead the pack. That was until he fell in love with a human and saved her life, revealing himself to her. He had a choice, to be burned alive or banned and never to return.

"There are rumours that he's back. He wants to speak with you." Jordan whispered. I looked up at him.

"What? Does my father know?" I asked, suddenly nervous.

"No, only me and Val." Val was Jordan's sister.

"How did you even find out about-" I was cut off.

"Did you just talk?" It was Molly. I whipped around to face her and gulped. I don't talk to many humans. I know too much, and it makes things easier if I just keep my mouth shut. I stared, wide-eyed. She was wearing her robe and nothing on her feet. Her hair was up in a bun.She didn't look away from me. When she saw Jordan she smiled and twirled her hair. She's had a crush on him for months now. She knew I was close family friends with him.

"Oh, hey, Jordan!" she said cheerfully. I rolled my eyes.I stood and so did Jordan.

"Well, I should get going then." Jordan said awkwardly.   He left the way he came, through the window. Mine and Jordan's relationship was confusing. One minute we would be acting like a couple and the next we were at each other's throats. I sighed and turned back to Molly.

"Hi," she said, holding a cup of tea. I waved.

"No, say Hi back, Riley." I looked at my bare feet.

"Why don't you ever talk?" she yelled. I looked up at her, surprise.

"You never talk! Well no, that's not true. You only talk to Jordan and Val!" she was still yelling. I couldn't feel my legs. I knew this would happen one day. I wouldn't tell her anythign so she'd soon forget about me. I just never thought it would be so soon.

"Say something! I'm sick of talking to you and getting no response! It's like talking to a wall!" she continued to yell.

"I'm sorry," I said through tears. My voice was quiet. She stopped and looked at me, stunned.

"You spoke," she said in awe.

"You yelled." I said back, quietly.

"Movie and bed?" she said. I laughed and we both sat on the couch. Soon, we were both asleep to the movie Mean Girls.

I woke up to the smell of blood. It was about seven in the morning. Four hours of sleep, whoopee. I didn't want to open my eyes.

"Molly?" I asked. No response. Then I looked to my right. I screamed. Molly sat there, eyes open. She had four large gashes ripping through her abdomen. I stared at her, my eyes wide. I called Jordan.

"Hello?" He answered after the first ring.

"Jordan...Molly...I.." I stuttered.

"Okay, calm down. I'll be right over." Minutes later, he arrived at the door. He let himself in, and stared over her with me.

The rest of the day passed as a blur. The police and Molly's mother were called. Jordan opened a window and made it look like an animal came in before anyone else got here. I sat in shock. She was my best friend. My only friend. I was going to find her killer if it's the last thing I do.

Don't worry Molly. There will be revenge.
