"Susie... Are you eating chalk?"
A tall, muscular, terrifying dinosaur stood against a line of lockers, chewing on the teacher's chalk. Behind her, there was a small, timid reindeer holding her school supplies. Noelle, the reindeer, had walked in at the wrong time.
Susie spun around, a large stick of chalk in her hand (and in her mouth). Noelle looked away, standing in front of this large, purple dinosaur. Susie growled and pushed Noelle's shoulder roughly into the lockers. "I don't know, am I eating chalk?" She snarled, her snout almost touching Noelle's face. "N-No Su-Susie..." Susie smirked. She looked at her victim, who was on the edge of crying, rubbing her shoulder. "Wa-Wait! Are you okay?!" Susie asked, slightly concerned. Noelle glanced up, terrified but slightly confused. "I'm fine..." Susie nodded, making eye contact. She began to blush, then looked away, obviously flustered. "Okay. Whatever. Not like I cared." She muttered, trudging past her into the classroom. Noelle looked at her feet, and felt a small warmth spread across her face. She lifted her notebook to cover her face, and she sighed. "I can't believe it's her, among all monsters.." She bit her lip, then looked up again. Kris was standing right in front of her. "O-Oh! Kris! Uhm.. How long were you standing there?" She was embarassed, and Kris just shrugged. "Why are you staring at me?" Kris shrugged again, then Susie walked out of the classroom. "Why are you still out here?" Susie demanded. "I.. um... Was talking to Kris?" Kris nodded, unsurely. She rolled her eyes. "Can you idiots come inside so Alph doesn't mark you absent?!" Noelle scurried up, and when she sat down, she took a deep breath and tried to settle the butterflies in her stomach. Kris casually followed, but Susie grabbed his shoulder. "Dude. You know how I feel about her. WHAT DID YOU SAY?!" Kris shrugged, and Susie laughed. "I forgot, you never say anything." She playfully shoved him, then trudged into class. She threw herself into the furthest desk in the back, and Kris sat in front of her. She always whispered to him in class. He didn't mind. They were best friends, anyway. Alphys walked up to the board. She was about to write, but then she realized she couldn't find the chalk. "C-can somebody go get me chalk? I can't seem t-to find mine." Noelle glanced over at Susie, and she winked back at her. Noelle stared at the board, trying to hide the red covering her cheeks and ears. Susie stood up, and pulled Kris up with her. "We'll go." Alphys looked up at Susie. "Y-You two go everyday, y-yet you never come back.." Susie growled, and Alphys jumped.
"O-Of course you c-can go!" Susie nodded and pulled Kris out the door, slamming it behind her. Noelle watched them leave, sighing. She wondered what they did all day. She decided she would find out where they were. "Miss Alphys, may I please use the bathroom?" She politely asked. Alphys nodded, and Noelle hurried out the door. She ran to the hallway, then turned to see Kris and Susie walk inside the storage closet. She wanted to follow them, but that was their secret. Noelle sadly walked back to class, sat in her assigned seat, daydreaming about what Susie was doing, doodling as she imagined. "Maybe she's saving the world from darkness.." She whispered, then laughed to herself. "No, that's silly." She giggled, scribbling out a drawing of Susie with a large axe, fighting a card-themed monster-king. "That's too silly to be true." She smiled, doodling Kris with a large scarf. That's when the last bell rang. Everyone got up and ran out, but Noelle took her time packing her stuff up. Her dad was in the hospital, her mom always on the phone, she had time to stay after school, waiting for Susie and Kris. She left the classroom last, and once everyone was out of the school, she sat next to the main exit. She waited, then doodled again. She froze. What if.. Susie likes Kris???? She started doodling Kris and Susie holding hands, and a large tear fell from her cheek. She sat there for a long time, holding the drawing and whimpering. She stood up, tore the drawing up, threw it away, and walked towards the doors. She was about to leave when she heard it.
"I can't believe I told Lancer about her!! He told me to tell her how I felt, as if she would like me!!" Susie exclaimed to Kris. Noelle looked up, and Susie looked up at the same time. Susie stood still, and Kris awkwardly waved. "H-Hi guys!" She called, wiping the tears off her face. She skipped over to the duo. "Were you crying?!" Susie asked. Noelle thought she sounded concerned. "N-No! Why would I be?" She smiled nervously. Susie smiled, and looked down. When she looked up again, she slightly blew her bangs out of her eyes. "Susie.. your eyes.." Noelle whispered. They were a beautiful color, a mix of browns and reds and greys. "They-They're beautiful!" She quickly covered them up. "Um, thanks. I guess." Noelle wanted to slam her head against a locker. "Your eyes are beautiful?! WHO SAYS THAT?!" She screamed inside her head.
"So.. um.. what are you doing here?" Susie asked. "Oh.. um.. well.." She looked away. Should she tell her the truth? She took a deep breath. "Well, you and Kris disappear all day, and I wanted to know what you were doing, but I was too scared to follow yousoIjustwaitedhereforyouand.." Kris put a finger over Noelle's mouth. He looked up at Susie. "No." She whispered. Noelle looked down, like she was interupting something. "I, guess I'll go now.." She whispered. Out of the corner of her eye, Kris gestured at her, and Susie shoved him. "Hey.. um.. Noelle. I know your dad is in the hospital.. and... Do you want me to walk you to the hospital?" Susie whispered. "Um... Sure!" Noelle called. Kris walked to the water fountain as Susie trudged up to Noelle. They walked out together, Noelle stayed on the sidewalk and Susie walked on the street. "It's not safe for you to stand in the road like that!" Susie laughed. "What? Am I gonna get hit by a ca—" Suddenly, a car sped down the road. Noelle grabbed Susie's hand and pulled with all her might. The car swerved, horn blaring, and Susie went flying into Noelle. She knocked her off the sidewalk onto the grass. Luckily, Susie caught herself, and landed on her knees on top of Noelle, with one hand on her back and the other on the ground. Susie quickly got up and kneeled next to Noelle. "Are you okay? Are you hurt? Can you feel everything? Did I crush you? I'm so sorry I'm so stupid I'm-" Noelle coughed and slowly sat up. "Thank you for- sort of- catching me. Are your knees okay?" Susie's knees were scraped and bleeding. "I'm fine." She whispered. Suddenly, Susie grabbed Noelle and pulled her into a huge hug. "I was so scared." Noelle put one hand around Susie, but she was too afraid to hug her fully. This was very unlike Susie. Suddenly, she dropped her. "I'm sorry." Susie whispered, standing up. She put a hand out, reaching for Noelle. She took her hand and stood up, dusting the dirt off her knees. "I won't walk in the street anymore." Susie whispered. Noelle giggled, and Susie felt the blood run to her cheeks. She looked down, trying to hide it. There wasn't much room on the sidewalk, so the girls' hands kept touching, after a few times, Susie got mad and held her hand. Noelle blushed. "Susie." She whispered. When Susie glanced down at her, she whispered, "You're holding my hand." Susie panicked, and let go, keeping her hand against her stomach. "I'm sorry!" She screamed. It made Noelle smile. "It's fine." They were outside the hospital doors. "Well.. This is it?" Susie asked. Noelle nodded. "I'll see you tomorrow!!" She called, walking up the steps. Susie began to walk away. "Wait!" Noelle called. Susie turned around. "Do you like Kris?" She called. Susie began to laugh, holding her stomach. "Not like that." She answered once she stopped laughing. "Oh. Okay!" She called, walking inside the hospital. Susie turned around and headed home, blushing.
"Ugh. She's so cute." She whispered to herself.
