Mistakes

Happy, Natsu and I along with Shiki and Rebecca headed home. The two danced around us cheerfully as they chased Happy. I was walking next to Natsu, is this what it'd be like to have a family? I thought as I stole a glance at his face. He seemed to be in deep thought.

Once inside I made some dinner and feed the tiny duo. Shiki sure does eat like Natsu, ha. It was late by the time they got settled, even Happy had dozed off. I cleaned the dishes and made some of my favorite tea. I poured Natsu a cup and found him relaxing in his hammock. "Tea?" I asked as he excepted it.

There had been a silence between us since the hallway incident. I could tell he had something on his mind , but I wasn't going to pry. He'll tell me when he's ready I'm sure..

After a few minutes of nothing being said I turned, walking over to the window to gaze at the sky. Sadly it was much to cloudy to really see anything.

I stiffened suddenly at the feel of warm arms gliding across my sides. A heavy head laid on the back of my shoulder, his warm breaths slow. In a husky voice Natsu spoke "Don't say it back if your still unsure.. but I love you Lucy." My shoulder seemed to be lightly wet as he let me go and my body was rushed with the sudden cold air. A tightening feeling urged me to say it back. My heart begged me to repeat those words. But my mind was froze.

The next few days was full of fun and laughter. Shiki and Rebecca were absolutely the cutest. The fun wouldn't last long though. We received word that Anna and the others hadn't retuned nor did they send a letter on why. Natsu and Happy took it upon themselves to go check on them.

When scared or worried.. the wrong things can be said.. I know that now.

"What are you doing?" Natsu looked at me odd as I readied my gear. He shifted his onto his back turning fully to me.

"We're going too. Master said we had to stick together." I said with stern matter of fact.

"No. You guys will stay. We don't know who or what yet. Happy and I will be fine, you guys will be safe closer to the guild." He shook his head as he trailed through his words.

"We Are Going! Your not leaving us. I won't let you leave me! If last night was true and you still do, then show me!!" I yelled before realizing what I said, more like what it sounded like. He obviously thought the same as his face twisted with anger to torn.

"Luce.. I won't risk losing you.. Not again!" His shoulders shook as he yelled the last part.

"Then Go! Leave Me like you've done In the Past! I'll just get use to seeing the back of you!"

Silence...

I thought I heard him huff a sorry and I'll return soon as the door shut behind him. Idiot, I was getting use to seeing him. Instead of the blacked out figure I'd once dreamt of.

Surprisingly Shiki and Rebecca hadn't heard our exchange. It'd been about two hours, instead of being angry my heart throbbed with sadness. It was time to get settled for bed. So I took the kids upstairs to the room that was built just for me. I tucked the kids in and sat at my desk to read, some more of his letters..

When I heard a loud bang coming from down stairs. Immediately alarmed I stood up, the kids still asleep. I ready an attack as loud thuds rushes up the steps. Go figure.. Hmm? It stopped? They must've came to the top by now.. I heard the clatter of the handle slowly turn. This is it. Natsu you idiot! Why did.. "You?" Saying the last word aloud as the opening door revealed the one I'd been cursing. "Natsu!?" Without a thought I ran up clinging to him. "I thought.. Don't do that to me, Dummy!" I whispered in his ear as the tears streamed down, him returning my embrace.

"Where's Happy?" I asked as I pulled back to look at his face. Hmm, he seems to be off? Maybe he's sulking because he's sorry?

"H-Happy went on. I came to get you guys." His tone seemed a little detached but I didn't think anything else about it..

My mistake..

We scooped up the kids, took the bags I had packed earlier and left as Natsu led the way, in a bit of a haste. He carried a sleeping Shiki and I a sleeping Rebecca. If I'd known better I would've caught it sooner.

We were headed the opposite direction of Anna..
