A couple of months had gone by and I hadn't thought twice about Jake working whenever I came back to work at the diner. I figured he had probably managed to get himself fired in the time that I was off. I was about to start my first shift since ending season and was trying to figure out how I was going to balance school, coming home on the weekends to work, and a social life, because let's be honest here that's basically what your first year of college is all about.

I walked through the door and into the servers well, seeing a few of my coworkers scurrying about as I clocked in and tied my apron around my waist. I glanced up at the board to see who I was on with today and of course it had to be Jake along with a few other people around my age, Natalie and Zach. I had worked with Natalie and Zach before, Natalie being a former classmate of mine in high school, and Zach started in the spring before I left for school. I know he's had a crush on me since he started and he snapchats me way too often for my liking.

Natalie ran up to me and wrapped her arms around me as soon as she saw me, "oh my God, are you back?" she squealed. Natalie is admittedly a little ditzy, but also the nicest person I've ever met and doesn't have a mean bone in her body. I nodded my head and she started babbling away about what I've missed. "And you've missed out on Jake, he is sooo hot," you could see her eyes sparkling when she gushed over him, I just rolled my eyes at her.

Speak of the devil and he shall come, Jake burst through the doors to the back looking a little stressed, "If you guys aren't doing anything can you make me three waters and a kids milk, this family is a mess, the kid is throwing crayons across the restaurant already and they've only been here for five minutes." We laughed him off and got to work helping him, but I wasn't entirely convinced he wasn't the monster that Camryn had told me about.

Over the course of the shift I noticed that he wasn't always so keen on taking tables, personal interaction didn't seem to be his strong suit but he was helpful. Always offering to take our dishes to the back and holding the door open if we had a table outside. The entire time we passed underhanded digs back and forth and making jokes about him doing extra work if he messed up at all. At least the interaction was civil, but I made it a point to let him know that I didn't like him at all.

I wish I could have said the same for Natalie. You could tell she was absolutely obsessed, making comments about him at any turn and always flocking towards him to talk or touching him whenever she could, really more like hanging on to him like a lost puppy. It was obvious something was going on to everyone.
