She didn't want to do it. Well...yes she did because she needed to...
Life hadn't been easy for Joyce Green. Bitten at the young age of ten and forced to endure horrifically unpleasant transformations every month, her life may have become a certain kind of hell. But her werewolf nature wasn't the first terrible thing to happen to Joyce.
The first had been when her mother and father and younger brother were killed in front of her as an eight year old. From there she went through so many foster homes in a year that it made her head spin and heart heavy. Maybe then, she thought her troubles would be over and she could simply just stay in one home for longer than a week.
The mother wolf, Lupa, had taken pity on Joyce and had granted her not only a stable home but a pack that would take care of her. Fifteen years later, she's now the detective for the local police department. During her time as a detective, there have been mass murders that have occurred monthly on full moons. To her colleagues and many others, it's just the unfortunate result of gang activity. But Joyce knows better as it was her pack who had taken the lives of those civilians. She covers for herself and pack as it's not as much their fault as it is their nature.
Tonight is a full moon and wolves will roam and kill in the streets under the guise of night. As planned by her department, a group of both citizens and police will be actively patrolling the city to prevent death. Only, everyone knows that those who sign up, don't come back aside from Joyce and one or two others who seem to miraculously survive the night beaten and battered. It is what encourages people to join the cause as more of their families and friends die. But it keeps the pack of wolves fed.
Later, long after the sun has set, headlights can be seen throughout the streets as all doors are locked with windows blacked out. Joyce smiles savagely to herself, teeth glinting brightly in the light of street lamps. Everything continues smoothly until the moon, steadily rising causes the changes in her to begin. She convulses in her seat as claws sprout from her slender fingers and her stout elongates, eyes changing into molten gold orbs.
In her wolf form, she hears screams from aside her. But they are quickly silenced as she takes a bite of all of her team's throats and blood gushes from their wounds. The metallic taste of blood is intoxicating mixed with human flesh and muscle and tendons. Bones crack under Joyce's strong jaws. She leaves the car and is soon joined by others in the streets. As the night progresses, more and more are killed then consumed, some mauled beyond recognition. A party of death.
Joyce wishes that she could tell herself to stop but she can't. Maybe next time...
