Ruby shivered as she walked through the cold winter night. The wind howled and snow dances around her. The dirt road crunched under her feet as she walked. Three years ago Ruby had run away. Ruby shuttered at the thought of her past.

Three years ago

Miss. Wright came home in her drunken rage again as Ruby was doing her homework.

"It's your fault!" Her mother screamed as she grabbed Ruby's hair. She never talked back to her mother or father as they abused her worse if she did.

"Mom, I don't understand!" Ruby screamed back as she tried to take her mother's hand out of her hair.

"It's your fault, I'm here! Your fault that they left me to take care of a worthless daughter like you!" Her mother screamed. Just two days ago Ruby had found evidence that she was adopted off the streets.

"Mom! Please, I don't..."  SMACK! Ruby's mother smashed her fist into Ruby's face. She lifted her hand and touched her cheek as tears fell down her face.

"don't speak back!" Her mother screamed before throwing Ruby to the floor and walking away. She picked herself up off the floor and walked to her room. Ruby opened her window and grabbed her bag that had everything she needed. Ruby slipped out into the warm summer night and into the shadows of a goodbye.

Now...

Ruby kept walking not knowing there was a car following her. The honk of the horn made her jump out of her step. The car drove up next to her and the driver rolled the window down. The man had raven black hair and kind sea green eyes. Ruby learned a long time ago never to trust people. Like my mother. Ruby thought bitterly.

"What are you doing out here in the freezing cold Ruby?" He asked as his passenger, a girl, straightened her hair. She had long tangled blonde hair with storm grey eyes.

"How do you know my name?" Ruby asked watching him carefully. She pulled at her light black jacket and ready to use her powers if needed.

"I was sent by your parents to retrieve you, and take you to a safe place." The man said as he sensed her movements. Ruby looked at them before taking off. "She's running! Like I told you Annabeth!"

Ruby heard the car door slam shut as she ran. The ground crunched under her feet as she ran.

"Percy! She's to fast. Where is Nico!?" The girl who Ruby assumed was Annabeth ran after them.  Freezing cold arms wrapped themselves around Ruby lifting her off the ground. She struggled and fought against her captive. Ruby stomped her foot down on his.

"Son of a bitch!" The man yelled as Ruby turned around and grabbed the back of his head and smashed it into her knee. He collapsed and Ruby was about to take off when Percy grabbed her.

"Let me go!" She screamed as she tried to fight back.

"Calm down we are here to help you." His voice flowed over her and she stopped fighting.

"Where were you three years ago?" She asked her voice barely above a whisper.

"I'm sorry about what your family did to you but I'm here to help you so please don't fight," Percy said as he dragged her back to his car. Ruby was tired so she let him pull her as the other man got up.

"Nico! Are you ok?" Annabeth asked as she helped him up.

"Yes, I'm fine. She's a fighter no wonder we haven't found out about her since yesterday." Nico said as he wiped off the blood on his nose. He lifted up Ruby's legs and helped Percy carry her to the car. Ruby's eyes got heave and she started to drift to sleep. The last thing she saw was Percy, Annabeth, and Nico looking down at her.
