Six years ago
Floating on my back, paddling my feet slowly. Feeling the cold water underneath me. Being in the water makes me feel so relax, like I am one with the water. My name is Ruby Jade Rose Mariñas. I'm on my senior year in highschool and one of the swimming team, and I can say- the most popular girl in our school. I get so known in our school because I'm always a topic of gossips. Most of it is good though, like how I dressed myself, how good looking and intelligent I am. Also, lets not forget- money. You may think I'm perfect 'cause I have everything, but NO. People think that I'm a spoiled brat and a complete b-tch. Which is kind of true, there is no denying it.
"Babe, come on! Until when do you plan to stay in the water, I'm so going to leave you now." Caileigh started packing her things, unplugging her earphones out of her laptop placing it on her bag together with her bottle of water and empty bag of chips.
"One more minute please, Lee." I told her with my eyes closed still floating on my back slowly.
"Girl, we've been here like... forever! Urgh!" Hearing her annoyed voice, I swimmed to her.
"Lee, you know water is my safest place. I just need some more time to get my parents problems out of my head." I explained to her with my best puppy eyes she can't resist. "Please, lets stay here a little longer. Pretty please?"
"Argh! I love you, Jady. But, no. I've got an important thing to do and you know it. I've been cancelling all my activities for you this past few days. But, I can't with this one. Its really important." She sighed. "I've got to leave. Anyway, I think you need some time alone. Just, call me if you need anything. I'm all yours after this, okay?"
I closed my eyes, just when she get near me and kissed the top of my head. "I'll be with you after this. I promise." I nod and wave back to her.
Caileigh Yu, also known as Lee has been my best friend since preschool days. She's my most loyal friend and partner in crime. She is the toughest girl I know, yet the sweetest to her loved ones. Kinda boyish on how she clothes herself, yet girly when we talk about the hottest boys on netflix. And she loves piercing and tattoos.
I started floating on the water again. After a couple of minutes, I pull my whole body deeper into the water, counting slowly- 1 2 3 4... when I reach 19th someone pull me on my waist.
I inhaled sharply, surprised at the person who pulls me out of the water. He pulls me closer and turn me to face him. I opened my eyes, brushing the water out of my face. When I looked at him, he has a worried look on his face. Annoyed, I slapped him on his shoulder hard.
"What is wrong with you!" I shouted at him.
"Shouldn't I be the one to ask you that?" Confused of my actions towards him. "Are you okay?" He said in a very low tone.
"I'm not! And don't you dare..." I pushed him hard. He lost his balance, and slip into the water. I swim away from him and get out of the water.
He was couging loudly, when get his head out of the water. He shaked his head and follow me.
"I'm sorry. I thought you were drowning, so I pulled you out." He apologised, his arms around himself tightly. I was about to use the towel to cover myself, but instead I threw it to him. He caught it and was about to say something but I cut him off.
"Get yourself dry." I started walking to the washroom.
AFTER blow drying my hair, I texted Caileigh that I'm going to our fave coffee shop. I brushed my hair and put on some lipgloss then, packed my things. I looked at myself in the mirror one last time and check the time on my watch. I still have two hours left to wait for Lee. What am I supposed to do now? As I walk my way out.
"Oh my gosh!" He jumped slightly at my sudden outburst. I put my hand over my chest feeling the fast beat of my heart. Surprised to find him waiting for me outside.
"You're still here?" Asking him unbelievably.
"S-sorry. I just want to check if you're okay."
"Urgh!" I rolled my eyes at him and walk pass him, annoyed that he is still here. I stop walking and he almost bump into me. I turned around to face him.
"You." I crossed my arms and ask him with a bored look, "do you know me?"
He looked surprised on my question, "Y-yes, of course I know you. I-I mean, who doesn't?" He really has a soft voice. He keeps on breaking eye contact with me and he looks so awkward.
"What's your name?" My question caught his attention. He stop playing the strap of his bag.
"Vince."
"Do you really talk like that?"
"H-huh?" He ask confused.
"Sorry. Nevermind." I turn around fast, closing my eyes tightly feeling embarrased of saying out loud the question I had in mind, when I was just about to ask him what is he doing here. I was about to leave him when I thought of something, and asked him a question he couldn't believe.
"Wanna go out with me?"
