The Genie in the Bottle

She beckons out with a siren’s call

For all who are able to hear

The down and out, the lot souls

The ones who no longer care

She sings of escape, of peacefulness

Of the calming of your soul

She weaves a tale of acceptance

Deliverance from your deep, dark, hole

She promises to take away the pain

To make you forget for a while

She reaches out from amber glass

With fairytale endings and smiles

But as her vision fades away

The amber turns crystal clear

With each drink the songs quiets

Until finally, nothing is there

And as you stagger all alone

Across the room into your bed

The whirlpool spinning makes you realize

She was all in your head

With morning’s light, you slowly rise

Still alone, still lonely, still in pain

You see the empty bottle on the floor

Realize you have to do it all again

To bring her back, a wish you have

To be free of the pain, although

You know inside, its just life denied

The Genie in the Bottle
