I pull my hand off my chest and bring it to my eyes while I continue to lay down. My hand is covered in blood a few drops fall on my face. I put my hand back on the hole in my chest knowing that I don't have much more time. As I lay dying I feel no fear only frustration that i have to reset again. I sigh as I feel death inching closer and closer. I close my eyes slowly accepting my fate wondering where and when I'll end up next.
Beep! beep! beep!
"John Goodman it's time to get up!! You're gonna be late for school!!" I hear my mom shout up the stairs. I slam my hand on the snooze button of my alarm clock and groan before noticing something. "That's weird" I say sitting up "the pull is stronger today then it ever been". Ever since I was born I have had this sensation in my chest that feels like something is pulling me somewhere. No one knows about this feeling except my mother. I told her about it once and she took me to a therapist. There was nothing he could do so eventually I just said I was better and never talked about it again.
Usually I can ignore it or distract myself because it just feels like a gentle tug on my chest but today is different. Today it feels like someone has tied me to a car and the car is taking off. Even so, I put on my clothes and begin to get ready for the day. "I can't let anyone know" I think to myself. If people were to find out I would be mocked and rediculed before being put in a mental hospital. I look into the mirror. My short curly black hair so different from my moms. My pale white face and clear green eyes. My mom says I take after my father in the looks department but I don't know, I've never met him. Supposedly he died when I was really young.
Bang!
The front door slams open and I hear my mother scream. "Ahhh" she says in high pitch scream. I run downstairs and see a man holding her long blonde hair in a fist yelling at her "where is it? Where IS it?!" He screams into her pale face. All she can say is she doesn't know. Two other guys go around the house looking for something. They completely disregard the money jar and the jewels in my moms room. One of the men notices me and I freeze with fear.He walks over to me and stares at me. "I found HIM" he says to his friends not taking his eyes off me. I look at my mom scared and confused. "What do they want with me?" I ask myself. The man look into my eyes which is difficult for him because at 16 years old I'm already 6'5" while he is 5'10". His eyes widen in some sort of realization and then he smirks. "He is unaware that means we can use him" he says to his friend who just walked up. His friend smirks and says "tie up the woman".
They tie her up while I try to figure out what they want so that I can help her. "Please don't hurt my mom" I say scared. They stare at me then her then back at me and laugh. "We won't hurt her... as long as you get what we want" the guy who was holding her hair says.
"W-what do you want?" I ask.
"The same thing you do" he replies "the thing that is pulling you towards it".
"How does he know about the pulling?! Did they interrogate my therapist? Why?!" These are just some of the questions I'm asking myself. "You have six months to go find it and bring it back to us before we slit her throat" he says. I gulp and nod. He lets me grab money and pack some clothes in my book bag and I run out the door completely relying on the feeling in my chest to guide me. Too scared to even think I run and run.
I live in a small town in Georgia so I know the streets like the back of my hand. I go around corners and into alleys to make sure I'm not being followed as I continue to run. I end up stopping in a park bench completely out of breath and drenched in sweat. I sit there and try to calm down and think. "I can call the police!" I thought but realized that by the time they got there we would both already be dead. The only option was to find what I was pulling me.
With new determination I got up and started walking. I had no idea where I was going or what I was going to find. All I knew is that in order to save my mother I would have to find this thing and quick!!!
Back at the house:
The men were sitting down waiting for John to come back. John's mother continues to cry terrified for her son and herself. "Marsh can I shut her up?" The guy who was holding her hair asks. "I don't care Drew" Marsh who is the one who first noticed John replies in return. Drew slits her throat, effectively silencing John's mom. "What the hell dude?!" The third man exclaims in shock. "Shut up Dillion or I'll slit your next" Drew replies back stating Dillion down.
"We might have needed to use her!" Exclaims Dillion. "Well she's dead now so I guess it doesn't matter" Marsh answers "now go find us some food we are going to be here awhile". Dillion groans and head to the kitchen. "This is going to a long six months" he mutters under his breath. "Plus if we're right when that kid finds out he could bring us a lot of trouble" Dillion says into the fridge
