Gold rolled over to look at the bed across from his. He stared at the black haired boy in the dark. He seemed to be asleep so Gold shifted onto his back, looking at the mattress above his.
He closed his eyes and tried to fall asleep, taking a deep breath in an attempt to relax.
"Are you okay?"
Gold turned over to meet bright eyes, gently reflecting a crimson color in the moonlight.
"Yeah. Just thinking."
"Are you sure? You haven't been sleeping."
"And you have?"
The boy didn't respond to that, simply walking across the room to Gold. In the soft light the scar on his head looked more prominent. Gold turned towards the wall in an attempt to avoid him.
"Get back in bed."
Ruby simply smiled and sat on the edge of Gold's bed.
"What's on your mind Gold?"
"Go back to bed." he snapped.
Ruby lifted the covers and climbed into the twin bed with Gold. Gold turned so that he wouldn't be pushed againt the wall. When he opened his eyes Ruby was staring at him.
"Are you going to tell me what's wrong or do you just want a hug?"
"Honestly that hug sounds pretty good."
Ruby sat up and opened his arms as a welcome to Gold.
The embrace seemed to last forever, sitting in the silence of night.
Ruby's head sat in the crook of his neck and Gold could feel heat seeping into him from the body pressed against him.
Ruby spoke softly next to Gold's ear.
"What are you thinking about? Please just, let me help you." Ruby slumped a bit and Gold held him close. He said nothing, but still held him.
"Ruby.. ." Gold uttered quietly. Ruby looked at the boy with amber eyes and they shared a small moment.
"I think I finally cracked."
Ruby looked puzzled and simply continued to look at him.
"My facade is fading and I'm scared. I dont know what to do." Gold's eyes started to water and Ruby felt a deep sympathy for him. Moving his hands from Gold's back, Ruby gently cupped Gold's face.
"Gold calm down. Just breathe."
They stared at eachother for a long moment before anyone spoke again.
Ruby wiped the tears from Gold's eyes before removing his hands from his face.
"I'm sorry Ruby, I didn-"
Ruby put his finger to Gold's lips.
"Don't apologize. You did nothing wrong. Remember I'm here for you."
Gold gently rested his head on Ruby's, their noses brushing eachother lightly.
"I dont know what to say."
"We don't have to say anything."
Ruby smiled and looked gave Gold a soft look.
"Do you want to try to go to sleep?"
"I probably should."
Ruby slipped away from Golds grasp and made his way back to his bed, slipping under the covers and closing his eyes.
"Hey Ruby," Gold called as he laid on his bed. Ruby looked over at him. "you're the best friend a guy could ask for."
Ruby chuckled and shifted to face the wall.
"Goodnight Gold."
While Gold comfortably slipped into sleep, Ruby spent most of the night with a sharp pain in his stomach.
Gold woke up to a kick in the side.
"Wake up. Its almost noon." Silver grumbled.
Gold rolled over, nearly falling out of the bed. He looked around the room, which was almost completley empty.
"Come on. We're going out to lunch with a couple of the girls."
"All of us are going?"
"Not all of us. We dont have enough car space for that."
"Well who's not going?" Gold asked, finally reaching a sitting position.
"Emerald, X, Lack and Ruby are staying behind. Do you want to come?"
Gold thought for a moment before answering.
"Nah I'm not in the mood."
"Alright. We're gonna go then."
"Have fun."
"Fuck yourself."
The amber eyed boy chuckled and made his way to the bathroom. Upon entering the bathroom he saw Ruby hunched over looking into one of the sinks with his hands on the back of his neck. His breathing was stammered and in a way broken. Gold didn't want to scare him so he made himself known calmly.
"Hey Ruby."
No response. Gold stared over at him concerned but continued with washing his face.
"Are you okay?" Gold asked as he dabbed a towel on his face. This sparked a small reaction from Ruby. He looked over at Gold with puffy, bloodshot eyes.
"Oh my god. What happened?" Gold pulled Ruby close, instinctively holding his face. Ruby's face heated but not nearly enough to make Gold notice.
Ruby sniffled and removed one of Gold's hands from his face.
"Dont worry about it. Its something i have to deal with."
Golds face twisted at the vague answer.
"Who was it?"
Ruby was caught slightly off guard and his eyes began to water a bit.
"Its nothing i swear."
Gold wiped the tears from his eyes.
"Dont lie to me. Who are you thinking about and what did they do?"
Tears slid down Ruby's cheeks as he tried to push away.
"Gold," Ruby seemed to choke on his name. "Please let me deal with this on my own." Gold was even more concerned than before.
"Is this because of last night? Did i do something to you?"
Ruby shook his head no whilst biting his lip. Gold took a breath and wiped Ruby's tears again.
"I'm sorry for asking so many questions. I have one last question. Are you going to tell me whats wrong or do you just need a hug?"
Ruby immeadiately wrapped his arms around Gold and held tight. Gold was taken back for a moment but held him close. He could feel Ruby loosen in his arms.
Ruby began to weep. He didnt know what to do any more. The knots in his stomach got worse whenever he spent time with Gold. He knew exactly why but he refused to admit to his feelings. After last night he couldn't tell of Golds feelings.
Gold gently ran his hands through the back of Ruby's hair while holding him close in his arms.
"You know you can tell me anything right?"
Ruby nodded, hitting his chin on Golds shoulder. Gold smiled softly.
"Remember that okay?"
Ruby nodded once more, leaning back to look at Gold.
"How are you always so nice to me? I mean I annoy you more than anyone else in the house so why would you give me the time of day. Especially when you have so much to do, you always find time to spend with me and I dont know why you care."
"Why didnt you ask?" Gold smiled and pushed the hair out of Ruby's face.
Ruby gave Gold a sheepish look.
"That's not exactly something i have the guts to do."
"Your kidding right?"
Ruby looked away. Gold laughed a bit.
"Why dont you ask me now?"
Ruby centered back on Gold, feeling Golds hands trail a twisting path on his back, giving him chills.
Ruby took a deep breath and looked into Golds eyes.
"How do you feel about me? Why are you so nice to m-"
Ruby was cut off by Gold pulling him closer, close enough for their noses to brush against eachother.
"Keep going" Gold whispered gently, but Ruby couldnt find his words, he was frozen where he stood and couldnt feel anything but every warm breath he shared with the amber eyed boy. Gold smirked and moved his hands slowly, still tracing Ruby's body with his hands. One of his hands landed on the back of Ruby's neck and the other around Ruby's waist.
A swift yet gentle movement was made as their lips touched. The warmth of Golds lips was so sudden but at the same time Ruby was so ready. He had wanted this, this warmth that burned from Gold's body was exactly what he wanted. Ruby held tight to Gold, though something told him it was wrong. He pulled away slowly, savoring every second of it.
Gold looked at Ruby with a fiendish grin, causing Ruby to heat up.
"Do you understand how I feel about you now?"
Ruby smiled a bit, pressing his nose against Golds.
"You're not doing this to pity me, right?"
"No, why-"
"And you're not doing this to take advantage of me, right?" Ruby's voice sunk a little. "Everyone knows that you play around from time to time but i dont want to be used as an object of entertainment."
Gold looked at him and smiled.
"Not many people ever genuinely ask for me to devote myself to them." He took the pale boys hand in his own and kissed it softly. "Of course I'll be yours and yours alone."
Ruby smiled and pulled Gold close, meeting his bright eyes happily.
"We should probably leave the bathroom." Ruby laughed a bit.
"Do you promise I won't find you crying in here again?"
"No promises"
