My alarm clock rang, awakening me from a peaceful sleep. Today was my first day of Junior year, I unshakably convinced that this year would be just as boring and uneventful as the last. I wouldn't realize until much later how wrong I was.
I hopped out of bed and hurriedly threw on my favorite Batman hoodie and ripped skinny jeans, along with my signature worn out converse that I'm pretty sure I've had since the 8th grade. Next, I ran a straightener through my crimson red hair and slapped on some makeup, which mostly consisted of mascara and a thick line of black eyeliner. Once I decided I looked presentable enough, I headed downstairs to find my little sister Angel at the table eating cereal.
"Morning Ange.", I smiled, kissing her forehead.
"Morning Jade.", She muttered between bites of fruit loops.
"Good morning girls," My dad sighed, coming down the stairs. "Jade can you drop Angel at school? I have to get to work. I'll probably be home late tonight, don't wait up.", He exclaimed as he walked out the door.
"Sure thing dad", I sighed to myself. Lucky for me the school was just down the street. "Ready for 1st grade Ange?", I smiled as we made our way down the street.
"As I'll ever be.", She sighed, defeatedly.
After dropping Angel off, I went straight across to the High School. I took a deep breath as I walked through the doors of Sunnyside High, making my way to my locker where I was met by my best friend Rachel.
"Hey girl!", She squealed, running up to me.
"Hey Rach.", I smiled, putting my books away.
"Can you believe it? Junior year!", She smiled giddily. "One more year until we get out of this place."
'Easy for her to say...', I thought. I had always secretly envied Rachel for the way she always seemed so put together, not to mention the fact that boys always noticed her for her long slender figure and blonde curls. I on the other hand, was the exact opposite. 4'8 with bright red hair, and I wasn't exactly skinny.
"You're so lucky Rach...You've known what you've wanted to do with your life since middle school, and boys always notice you. I've never even had a real boyfriend.", I sighed, shutting my locker.
"You just need to start putting yourself out there more. You never know, Mr. Right could be just around the corner.", She winked, heading into her classroom. Just then, A tall boy with long dark hair and skinny jeans walked by, along with a petite girl with dyed black hair and skin tight clothes. I watched as he bent down to kiss her, which quickly turned into a heated makeout session in the middle of the hallway. I had always felt awkward around people displaying acts of affection in public. Like can't they just get a room...? In all honesty maybe I was just jealous, seeing as I've never even had my first kiss.
I made my way into the classroom and took an empty seat in the back of the room. To my surprise, the boy from the hallway took the seat across from me. I noticed his gaze shift over to me for a split second. Should I say something...?
"Hey!" I spoke, a little too enthusiastically.
"Hi?" He replied, raising an eyebrow.
"I'm Jade, what's your name?", I blushed.
"Bruce Wayne.", He smirked.
"Okay Batman", I giggled. "What's your real name?"
"Listen princess, I'm not here to make friends okay? I'm here because I'm forced to be, just like everybody else capiche?", With that I blushed, turning around in my seat. So much for trying to be nice...
