When I returned to the table Cameron and Tori were talking about random things. Mainly about what happened over the weekend and what was planned throughout the week and weekend. Most of it I don't remember due to the fact that I kept wondering who our special guests might be. Shortly after I sat down Cole brought us our order. He sat next to Cameron and began catching up with us all.
Cole usually took his lunch break when we stopped by after school. After Cameron and I finished eating and catching up with Tori and Cole we had to head to work. We both went in at 4:30pm although we were scheduled to come in at 5:00pm. Joel had requested that we came in early to get all the details. Cameron and I were both curious who our special guests was going to be.
Ten years ago Cameron had worked up to the manager position. He was finishing up his training when I was hired. He had been working at Musically Descriptive for as long as I can remember. I took his spot as lead cashier. I loved working there it didn’t feel like a job. It combined the things that I loved to do, reading, music and helping people.
When we arrived at the store Joel was up front straightening up a little bit. He had huge smile on his face as we approached him.
“ Hey! you two I have a lot to tell you before your shift starts so follow me," Joel said eagerly.
Cameron and I looked at each other with excitement and confusion on our faces. We followed Joel like he asked us to, he led us to his office. We all sat down then Joel began explaining what was going on.
He started by saying “Okay, so of course you both know that we have some special guests are coming to the store right?”
We both shook our heads and said “Yes.”
Joel went on to explain that The Band Dan and Trey Leon were our special guests they were in town because of Nashville Lyrics approaching. They were going to be holding auditions and taking applications for anyone who wanted to participate. They would be at the store for the next three weeks to get as much talent as they could. The news excited me, this could be my chance to be heard for my music but I knew I wasn’t serious about that thought. My songwriting was just a hobby.
It’s not just for everybody to see or hear. Our special guests were arriving Monday and since I was out of school the next few weeks, Joel wanted Cameron and I to work all day while the guests were in town. We couldn’t believe what we were hearing. Of course we agreed that we would be there. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
After Joel was done talking to us we began our shift. Cameron and I talked about what we had just heard. I could see the excitement in his eyes. Cameron told me that Trey Leon was one of his favorite artists. Cameron couldn’t believe that he was going to be working with Trey Leon and The Band Dan.
Our shift flew by, it was always fun especially when business was slow and there was nothing to restock or straighten. I played around on the piano, which usually gave me songwriting inspiration. I figured Cameron knew or at least suspected that I wrote songs but he gave me my space. Sometimes Cameron would come over there and we would sing together as I played. I only knew how to play one song fully so that’s the one we sang, the name of that song I could never remember.
Cameron took me home after we had locked up the store. It was a surprisingly quiet ride home. I could tell he had something on his mind but I didn’t push him to talk about it, we arrived at the house before I knew it. It seemed like he almost wanted to talk but then changed his mind. We both we went in, Cole was in the living room.
I told both Cole and Cameron goodnight then went to bed. Cameron told Cole everything, first about our special guests coming to the store. Then Cameron told Cole in on how his feelings for Lilly kept growing. He also told Cole about how he had told Tori and that she was going to help him get the nerve to ask Lilly out.
