Script - Video Response To Hank Green’s - Unedited Vlogbrothers Video and An Hour Of Me Writing A Script Video.
Good morning john,
This video isn’t to john, i’m just using hanks method of starting the script as a way to start, so that i’m not looking at a blank page, and in turn commenting that that is what i’m doing as a calm introduction.
This video is a response to a video hank put on hankschannel as part of the Nerdfighter Online Video Workshop, in which he discussed, unedited, internet comments and the people who leave them, the comments as a whole and how we think about them.
In a way this video isn’t really a response to what he said but a response to how he arrived at his thoughts/conclusions, and in turn my thoughts on all that stuff.
After watching the video, well actually during as well, but more so after when i started thinking about my thoughts on what he said, i sort of realised i disagreed with him. Not necessarily what he thought but the way in which he was thinking.
In the video, link in the doobly doo, he discussed a variety of things pertaining to internet comments, and the one point that stood out was the point he made regarding the people who leave negative comments.
The main discussion centred around the idea that hank disagreed that it was the anonymity afforded to people commenting that allowed them to say the things they said, that he didn’t believe the people leaving the comments were good/kind/sweet people during the day and when they were on the internet and commenting turned into, as he put it, internettrollturds. he believed that they were just bad people who couldn’t say what they wanted during the day because people wouldn’t like them and so used the comments as a way of interacting with people and saying what they truly felt.
This is where my thinking sort of breaks away from the point he was actually making and instead is about the thinking and logic that had gotten him there.
I don’t want to in anyway assume or comment on his thoughts as a person or his beliefs, this is just what his video led me to think about. so in part this part has nothing to do really with hank and is instead with the general idea of what he was thinking.
After watching the video i started trying to think what it was like being these ‘bad people’. and the major thought i was having was do they actually exist.
I was trying to imagine what it would be like to be these people and how their brains and their thoughts worked, and i quickly thought that i didn’t agree with this idea that there exists ‘bad people’.
That i couldn’t imagine anyone who has given thought to their own thoughts and why they think the way they do, could possible think so one sidedly,
and so either they never confront their own thoughts, which was hard and actually seemed almost impossible for me to believe,
or these people who think so one sidedly, all the time, don’t exist.
And from that i got to the point which made me want to make this video and which is what i ultimately came away with from hanks video, and without meaning in anyway insult, my ‘problem’ with hanks video.
