iCarly – A programme on Nickelodeon where two teen girls and a guy run a webshow. (It’s hilarious, look it up if you don’t know what it is)
“What did you say?!” Nadia demanded, giving Audrey a playful death-glare. They were in Nadia’s house which was at the bottom of the hill – Audrey and Sam’s houses were opposite each other and close to the top of the hill. Sunshine streamed through the windows making the red walls of Nadia’s bedroom really pop. She too had crafts all over her walls and drawings she had done.
Audrey chuckled before answering, “I said when I was a kid I wished I had a web show like iCarly and now I kind of do. It’s on YouTube, I’m Carly, Samuel is Sam and you’re Freddie.”
“I am not Freddie!” Nadia reached out over her bed trying to grab Audrey who was sat in her bean bag.
“You won’t get me unless you stand up, lazy bottom!”Audrey laughed, watching her struggle.
Nadia gave up and lay back. She reached for the glass of orangeade on her bedside table. Before sipping from the bright green straw she said, “How am I Freddie?! What logic did you base that on?”
Audrey thirstily watched the straw get darker as the liquid was sucked up it. “I can’t believe you didn’t get me a drink. Ever heard of hospitality?”
“You’ve been to my house enough times to know where the orangeade is.”
Audrey rolled her eyes at typical Nadia behaviour. “That’s not the point, is it? I’m the guest and-”
“Just answer the question,” Nadia said impatiently.
“Well, I didn’t want to leave you out, and Sam and I are always the ones in front of the camera so you had to be Freddie. You sometimes help with the camera too.”
“Yeah, but I’m not Freddie! I’m more Sam in my personality. And Samuel does more technical stuff than me.” Nadia placed the glass down and Audrey immediately reached for it, but Nadia was too quick and she slapped her hand away.
“I’ll just go drink from the bathroom tap then,” Audrey said, rubbing her hand where Nadia had hit her. She stood up and walked out of the room to the bathroom a few steps away. Just as she turned the tap on and was about to drink she heard Nadia yell something.
“I wash my delicates in there!”
Audrey immediately switched the tap off and returned to the room. “Gross!”
“Well, where do you wash them?”
Audrey held her hand out. “Let’s not have this conversation.”
Nadia shrugged. “So what’s the latest with you and Sam?”
“Oh, nothing much, just that he might have sorta kinda tried to do something sweet for me and I may have sorta kinda splashed him with ice water – you know, the norm.” Audrey tried to act like it wasn’t a big deal, using slang like norm for normal. She didn’t need another person telling her she should have been a nicer girlfriend to him.
“You did?!” Nadia gasped. “High five!”
They both laughed as Audrey retold the story of Sam throwing stones at her window and how her immediate response was to get rid of him – but even dumping ice water out of her window didn’t do that.
When Audrey finished telling the story, Nadia said, “That boy sure has to try hard to impress you.”
“What do you mean?” Audrey asked quickly, trying to act natural. She was scared she really was an awful girlfriend. Ever since they started going out Audrey had felt self-conscious, like she doesn’t deserve him. She’d been scared of him finally realising this and leaving her. Over the two years they had been together, this gradually started to fade but a piece of that old Audrey still lived in her.
