Anjana moved the thaali in circles, welcoming the newly wedded couple into Hooda mansion. There was a silence in the air...everyone in the family trying to process what had taken place.
Aditya and Zoya were married now. Two people who grew up together, who have never gotten along...who couldn't hold a single conversation without arguing...were now married. They were now bound in this sacred relationship.
Once Anjana finished, Aditya and Zoya bent down and touched Anjana's feet. When they straightened, Anjana placed a gentle hand on Zoya's cheek. "Mujhe paata nahin tha ke mein itni kush naseeb hoon, ke mujhe bahu nahin beti milegi." Anjana saw the blank look on Zoya's face, she has had that look ever since she read Yash's letter.
Anjana kissed Zoya's forehead, "Kal chahe jo kuch bhi ho...yeh yaad rakhna ke hum saab tumhare saath hain." Anjana said lovingly. Harshvardhan and Arjun stood behind Anjana smiling, giving their assurance without words.
Aditya stood next to Zoya and looked at her face. No tears. No reaction. His eyes shifted and met his mother's, no words were exchanged but both knew what the other was thinking.
"Everyone...let's retire for the night. It's been a long day." Harshvardhan said.
"Yes...go and rest. Your clothes are already in Aditya's room" Anjana said, gently nudging Zoya to come inside.

Aditya opened the door to his bedroom and waited for Zoya to enter. She entered and stood in front of the bed, looking out of place in the massive bedroom. Their eyes met and Aditya tried to find the right words.
But Zoya seemed to look right through him. It was clear that her mind was somewhere else. Aditya didn't know what to do as he awkwardly stood by the door.
"Why don't you go shower?...Change? You must be uncomfortable in that dress..." Aditya awkwardly said.
Zoya simply made eye contact with him again and made her way to the connecting bathroom. She closed the door behind her and walked straight to the shower. When the cold water hit her face, she broke out of her trance. The shock lifted and the tears fell. Yash left her...on their wedding day he left her. The first sob ripped through her...he didn't even bother telling her that he was having second thoughts...the second sob came...he didn't find her worthy enough to share his problems...the third sob...
The water soaked through Zoya's clothing and she sank to the shower floor...her heart shattering to a million pieces.
Aditya sank onto the bed. He rubbed his hands over his face, suddenly feeling extremely tired. They were married. Aditya tried to replay the events of tonight in his head, trying to figure out what the hell happened to him...why he took such an important decision. He married her...married her.
Were they going to spend the rest of their lives together? They didn't love each other. Zoya loved Yash. Aditya has never been in love before...and Zoya hated him...how were they going to spend the rest of their lives together?
His head was spinning with questions and doubts when he heard a sob. His turned his head toward the sound and realized it came from the bathroom. Another heart wrenching sob reached his ears and his heart ached.
He walked to the closed bathroom door and heard the sobs more clearly. He placed his hand on the door...half expecting to touch Zoya...maybe wipe her tears...but the barrier was there. Her sobs filled the air...and his heart continued to ache for her.

Several hours later, when Zoya finally emerged from the bathroom, she saw Aditya sitting on his couch. He was clearly waiting for her.
"Woh tum...." Aditya hesitated, "Tum bed pe soh jao...you've had a long day." He finished, not sure what else to say. Her sobs still ringing in his ears.
Zoya nodded her head in acknowledgement, having no energy to speak or argue. She slipped under the covers and turned off the bedside lamp.
Aditya laid down on the couch and closed his eyes, hoping for sleep. But neither Zoya or Aditya slept that night.
