Mark worked at a law firm. He earned good money, more than enough to pay the bills and live a very comfortable life with his family. He was the second of two sons. His mom was both mom and dad since his father died in a car accident. Mark's mom had to raise he and his brother alone and as far as he could tell, she did a good job.
His wife's words kept playing in his head as he was speeding home, not caring about the red, yellow or green lights.
"Someone's in the house"
Mark already called the police and was confident that they were at his house already, but still he couldn't help but feel that they were already too late. His hands were still shaking since the phone call and the drowsiness was totally gone.
He got home in half the time it normally takes him to. He saw the police lights first and calmed down a little. Then he saw the ambulance and froze.
They were too late...no, he was too late, if only he had called the police earlier, his wife and unborn child would still be alive. It was all his fault and for the first time in his life, he wanted to die. He walked to the ambulance, heart in mouth and was surprised to see his wife standing there. At first, he thought he had had a car accident on his drive home and was already dead. But his wife ran to him and embraced him, her cheeks wet with tears.
"Good evening sir, are you the husband?"
"Yesss", answered Mark, his voice still shaking
"I'm Agent Steve", said the man in a uniform as he stretched his hand to shake him.
"It appears to be a simple case of robbery as far as we can tell, but we'll need your help to ascertain what was stolen"
"Yes, anything you might need"
The man didn't even go into the bedroom where Sarah was hiding while she called. Mark and Sarah checked the house thoroughly that night and they were sure of one thing- This was not a robbery.
