"Miss Viola, you have recieved a letter from Her Majesty." Paulina states, gently placing the envelope on my desk.
"Yes, thank you." I reply dryly as she walks out the door leaving me alone with the new designs in my study.
I scan the parchment with the usual red insignia sealing the letter. The insignia of the queen. I get these letters every so often. None hold much importance ever really, she's only checking up on her grandchild. Yes I am related to the queen. I am the child of her youngest daughter, who me married my father. I'm not one for the throne nor will I ever be. I'm only related to her by blood and that's as far as it goes. The letter probably wanted to know how many eyes have I caught or if my secrets let out yet. Really nothing I ever reply to, yet the backside of the parchment read, in perfect cursive, IMPORTANT. Well I suppose it wouldn't hurt to look.
Dear Viola,
How is my sweet granddaughter doing? It's been quite a while since I have seen you last. Almost a year has gone by without so much as a letter. Sadly I am not here to chapter with you.
I have heard from Paulina you are unable to question your leads because someone gets to them first. I understand the importance of finding Victoria and posing as her, and so I bestow upon you a job. It is not one similar to a angling the company. You will be assisting my guard dog.
From here on out, I have informed him of your upbringing and assistance. He does not know of our current situation nor why you are helping. He has been introduced to Victoria Rosella, The Queens Hare. And so my sweet, I have arranged a meeting to take place on April 8 around tea time. A good time to go out and enjoy a warm cup of earl gray on the balcony or in the gardens, don't you agree?
He is the Earl Ciel Phantomhive, owner of the Funtom company.
Yours dearest,
Queen Alexandria Victoria
April 8 at around 3 p.m.
I finally get to meet her guard dog, the guardian of the underworld. I've heard stories and tales of the past earls but I haven't met this one. I don't know much about any of the noble around here anyways. They are all much too self conceited to achieve my attention. Phantomhive must be different though to have earned Her Majesty's trust.
"Paulina mark April 8 at tea time my appointment with the Earl Ciel Phantomhive." I order her as she begins to walk down the hall she's been standing in. Paulina's the silent type. There is almost no noise other than the creaking of the floorboard Paulina quickly repairs and the scribbling of my pen in the parchment. Not many words are exchanged between the two and seeing as this is the third floor I don't hear any of the other servants work. Sometimes Daniel, Victorias old tutor and butler, will come in to make sure I'm also doing my studies but other than that I'm shut in this study.
"Milady, you have an appointment with the earl Phantomhive in an hour out on the balcony. Please prepare for his arrival." Paulina interrupts with her straight face, bows and walks out to prepare the snacks.
"Wait, it's today?!"
