Kanata's Point of View

Ring ring ring!!!!

The school bell went off signaling the students that it was lunch time. Grabbing my pencils and notebooks, I put them in my bag and head out for lunch. I gaze around the tables, trying to spot a friend of mine. He was in separate classes from me so I only saw him for lunch and occasionally around the neighborhood but he is a good friend.

"Kanata!" I hear the familiar voice call. Searching around I spot Sojiro sitting at a table, eating lunch with his nerdy friends.

"Coming," I call, waving my hand. I make a quick dash over to the table and find Sojiro has saved me a seat. Everyday at lunch I would sit with him and I would hangout with my other girl friends during the day seeing how I saw them in class.

"Hey Kanata," says one of his friends, a boy with glasses and green hair, "I haven't seen you in forever. You were sick for quite a while, weren't you?"

I nod, "Mhm. But I was only out for a week. I caught up in my studies on my free time later on."

"How sick were you?" another one asks, this time being a small guy with black hair, "What did you have?"

"Oh, well the doctor couldn't identify it but I seem to be doing better now," I respond, "Sojiro kept me company so that helped with the loneliness of being in bed all day."

Sojiro chuckled, "Well you know, we've been friends forever and I don't live that far so I decided to visit you every once in a while." It was just for a second but he was blushing just a tad. Probably doesn't want to embarrass himself in front of his guy friends. "What did you guys do while I was gone?" I ask them.

"Well, you know," said the boy with glasses sheepishly, who's name is Kaito, "Just the usual. We were talking about this video game that we're all stuck on and beating the boss in this level is so hard! You wouldn't believe it!" There they go again. Talking about things that I know nothing about.

"Well, at least thats what Kaito and I where doing," says Shiro, the black haired boy, "Sojiro hardly was even with us most of the time. He spent his time trying to get close to the girls in your class and just dozing off into thought. Occasionally he'd try to get there attention."

I look to Sojiro whom flushes a bright red with embarrassment. All he can do is laugh and sheepishly smile at me. "You never change, do you Sojiro," I laugh.

"Well, you know me," he says scratching the side of his head, embarrassed.

Later on when school was out, I packed up my bags and began walking home. "Wait up, Kanata!" I hear Sojiro call from behind me. I turn around to see him catching up and I greet him with a smile.

"Hey, have you forgotten? Before you were sick we'd walk home together all of the time. Now that your back I thought we'd continue things normally. Don't tell me you've already forgotten about that," he says.

"Oh my! You're right! I almost forgot. I'll have to get used to being back at school. I can't believe I forgot," I respond.

He puts his arms on top of my head as if it was an arm rest. "I've missed my little shorty," teases he. Oh yeah... that's why I forgot.

"Oh cut it out," I tell him as I move, letting his arms fall, "I'm older than you!"

"But still shorter," he laughed.

I sigh with a smile. Nothing I can do about that, I shrug. We walk home and get to my house first as usual, which is where he waves goodbye and keeps walking down the road. I go into my room to do my homework as usual and think to myself, Sojiro is probably playing some dating sim game and completely forgetting about his homework. I might have to let him borrow mine again. The thought doesn't bug me at all as I continue to work. I get it done fast and I glance at my calendar. Only a few more days until exams. I think I'm pretty prepared and very excited... but I also have a bit of an ache in my heart.

Once exams are over, my last year at school is ending... which means it's time to grow up and make a career choice so I can choose a college. But that also means I'll most likely be leaving all of the friends I've made at my school seeing how none of them are interested in the same things as me so they'll be off at other schools. Even the friends I have in the younger classes, I won't be able to see them as much because they'll have one more year of school.

Damn...

Ok, short chapter. Didn't want the first one too long. But anyway, you can see where this is going. And am I the only one surprised that Kanata was a little older than Sojiro?? I was doing research before I started the fanfiction and turns out she just looks young, due to her lack of size. Weird. But anyway, hope you liked the first chapter.
