"Elio, wake your butt up or else we'll be late for school!" I could hear Erin shout across the apartment. "Yeah whatever, be right there." I rolled over, sitting up as I stepped out of bed. I walked out of my room, over to the kitchen where Erin was.
She had her messy cyan hair tyed up in a ponytail, and was still wearing her pajamas. "I'm gonna get changed, you.. do whatever you need to do." She ran to her room and I nodded, grabbing a piece of toast and holding it in my mouth as I walked back to my own room.
I changed into a pair of black skinny jeans, ripped at the knees and a black and white striped sweater. I looked in the mirror and messed with my hair for a minute till it looked like I hadn't just woken up.
Grabbing my yellow high tops and backpack, I ran out of my room, slipping my shoes on and throwing my backpack over my shoulder.
I knocked on Erin's door repeatedly till she answered, knowing it would annoy her. She walked out, glaring at me as she walked over to the front door.
"Where's dad?" I asked her as I watched her put her jacket on. "Probably left for work early, he didn't say anything though." She said, opening the door and starting to walk downstairs.
I nodded and ran over to our dog, petting him and kissing his head before I ran out the door myself, locking it behind me and chasing after Erin who was already a few feet ahead of me. "Walk slower can't you?" I shouted at her.
She shook her head and laughed a bit. We walked outside and started making our way to school. I looked up, seeing our friend- or more, Erin's friend crossing the street.
Erin waved to him. "Aleks!" He turned to look at us and smiled, jogging over. "Hey guys." He stood next to Erin, me on one end, Erin in the middle, and him on the other end. I walked silently as the two chatted randomly. Popular kid stuff, I guess. School drama, y'know. The only drama I knew about was drama class.
I hadn't realised my arms had been crossed until Aleks looked over to me. "You good, El?" He asked, flashing me a smile. "Fine.. I'm fine." I could feel my cheeks heat up. God, why did he have to do this to me. It's like he knew I liked him.
I glanced up, seeing our school. "I'm just gonna go ahead.. I have a different class than you guys anyway." I muttered and ran up the stairs to our school, walking inside. I made my way to my first class of the day, History. Walking inside the class I sat down, looking at all the other kids.
The day had gone by pretty quickly, and it was already the end of our last hour, English. I was back with Erin and Aleksander in this class, but they sat in the front, and I sat all the way in the back.
"And here's your homework for tonight, it's due tomorrow." Said our teacher, Mr Bronze. He walked around the classroom, handing out a sheet of paper to everyone. He got to the last person; me and smiled, clasping his hands together. "Well, see you all again tomorrow." He said as the bell rung.
Everyone started running out of the classroom, and in the rush of things, I realised I had forgotten my homework right before we started walking home. "I'll be right back," I told Erin and Aleksander. They looked confused, but nodded and kept talking as I ran into the school.
I ran up the stairs to English, and luckily for me the school had cleared out since we usually stay and talk outside with some other friends. I slowed my pace down and was about to walk into the classroom before I heard another voice coming from inside. One I hadn't heard before, and one that didn't belong to Mr Bronze.
"We can meet at my company to discuss the plans. Is 5 o'clock good for you?" I heard the unfamiliar voice say. "5 is fine, Cohen." Mr Bronze said, his voice low, like he didn't want anyone to hear this. The man slipped Mr Bronze a folder that was nearly overflowing with papers. He set it on his desk gently.
I thought now was a good a time as ever to use my powers, so I turned invisible. I tip toed in the classroom, and got a good look of the mysterious figure. He was tall, taller than Mr Bronze, which was kind of shocking because Mr Bronze is a tall guy. He was skinny, and had skin the colour of chocolate. He had a very clean look to him, wearing black dress pants and a white button up with sleeves rolled up to the elbows and the top button undone.
The only thing strange about him were his eyes, which I got a good look at once he turned around. They were bright red. Intimidating, to say the least. He looked in my direction and I held my breath as he grinned deviously. "Oh, Bronze, I think one of your students is spying.." He winked at me, walking out of the classroom.
How the hell could he see me? I thought to myself. I glanced at Mr Bronze, hoping he wouldn't find out it was me. He already didn't like me that much. Bronze turned to the man. "Cohen wait, what does the student look like?" Bronze walked after the figure I have come to call Cohen.
"Shit shit shit shit shit." I thought in my head, running to the side of the door and glancing out it at the two. "Wavy black hair, dark grey eyes, freckles, dark clothes, and.." He looked down at my feet. "Yellow shoes." Mr Bronze arched an eyebrow before nodding. "Thank you, I'll take care of it.. see you at 5."
Cohen nodded, starting to walk out of the school, I watched him, not paying attention to Mr Bronze. "Elio. Show yourself, now." I heard him say. I took a deep breath and turned visible, looking down. "Uh.. could I get my homework?" I asked. "Meet me in my room in the morning," he said, ignoring my question. "I know about your secret, Elio." I nodded quickly and grabbed my homework, sprinting out of the classroom and passing Cohen as I ran down the stairs.
I could feel his eyes watching me, piercing through my skin. I shook off the feeling quickly, running to Erin and Aleksander. I stopped at a hault, tripping forward as Aleks caught me and held me up right. "Careful." He said.
I felt my entire face turn red again. Dammnit, Aleks. "Come on.. let's go." I shook my head, starting to walk home ahead of them. I wanted to get away from that school, Mr Bronze, and the strange Cohen figure as soon as I possibly could.
I saw a flash of red eyes ahead of me and I shook my head. "You're going insane Elio. You really are." I saw them again, paired with a now familiar voice that I matched with Cohen's. "Your secret is safe with me, Elio."
Nope. No. Nope. Absolutely not. I did not just hear that.
"Erin, punch me." I turned around to her. "Uhm, why?" She asked. "Just punch me." She punched me in the arm and I inhaled sharply. She hit hard. "Thanks."
Great, looks like I'm not dreaming. I turned back around and kept walking, shaking my head. I have to find out who this guy is, what his relations with Mr Bronze are, and most importantly, how he knows my secret.
And you know, I have the suspicion my secret isn't safe with him.
