Marnee POV.
I woke up in a daze not knowing where I was. I could hear sounds. I sat up and rubbed my eyes. I was in a hospital bed in a ward. Why am I here? What happened? A nurse came over. The smell of disinfectant and the familiar hospital smell filled my nose and I scrunched my face up in disgust.
"Hello Miss Walker, how are you feeling? You slept for a long time." She asked nicely.
"Ermm, okay I guess. My stomach and head hurt though. Why am I here?" I asked looking confused.
"Don't you remember? You were in an accident, a car hit you." The nurse said. I searched my memory. The nurse took my pulse, plumped my pillows, smiled and then walked away.
FLASHBACK.
Bright lights surrounded me. A piercing screech filled my ears. I felt my body glide across the cold metal of the car and then hit the hard concrete floor with a thud.
-End of flashback-
I remembered what happened. I remembered what he did to me. Tears rolled down my cheeks. I'd tried to kill myself because of what he did to me. But I hadn't succeeded and I was angry at myself.
"Miss Walker you have a visitor." The same nurse walked up to me and announced.
Who on earth would know I'm in hospital? My face froze in shock... Oh please.. not him.. anything but him.
A guy walked up to my bed. He had dark black/ brown hair. quite tall, dark brown eyes, and he was very good looking. It was Noah.
"Hi there, Marnee" he asked and smiled. Wow... that smile. It's like he just came in and lit up the room. I remember that smile from last night.
"Hello" I smiled slightly. His deep, hazel eyes sparkled.
"I saw what happened and came to help you. You were at my mom's party. Remember?"
"You saw me walk in front of the car?" I asked and he nodded. I looked down at my bed sheets and fiddled with them with my hands.
"Why?" asked Noah looking concerned. I sighed.
"You wouldn't understand." I said not looking up as I could feel the stinging of tears trying to escape and roll down my cheeks.
"The doctors said that you had unexplained bruises on your body that weren't from the accident." Noah mentioned as he slowly walked closer towards my bed. He stopped.
"I don't want to talk about it." I said quietly.
Oh gosh, he knows, he knows what he's done to me. I looked up at him, trying not to cry. Noah started to walk closer towards my bed again.
"I said I don't want to talk about it." I moved in my bed and as I did so I flinched and clutched my stomach. Noah looked at me with a sympathetic and concerned look on his face.
Before he could say anything else there was a knock at the door and a bunch of guys appeared.
"Can we come in?" One of them asked. I nodded and quickly wiped any tears that had started to fall.
"How's the patient?" One of the guys said. I smiled.
"Do I detect a smile there?" The guy said.
"I'm Charlie." He introduced himself and bought over the chocolate and grapes.
I took them both and looked down at the packet of grapes.
I picked up an empty stem and looked at him.
"Hungry were we?" I said and giggled but immediately regretted it as I clutched onto my stomach again. Noah looked at me.
"It's okay." I said and handed the grapes back to Charlie. "I'd rather have the chocolate." He took the packet, sat down in the chair and finished eating the grapes.
"That's Charlie for you! Always hungry." Another guy said as he appeared in the doorway and walked forward with some clothes.
"I'm Luke. The doctors asked us to get some clothes for you."
"They're Tay's, I hope you don't mind." Noah said and handed the bag of clothes to me. I didn't mind. Tay and I were friends.
I was surprised to have people who actually wanted to be nice to me. I didn't have many friends as Josh had made sure that a lot of my friends had left me so that he could have me to himself. He could be very manipulative at times. Whenever I got texts from my friends or phone calls he would make sure he always answered and told them I was busy which annoyed me as I missed them. I longed to tell them what was really going on but the doubt of what Josh would do to me if I told shut me up and so I just kept quiet. He could be threatening at times and I would often get shouted at for making a simple mistake when I was with him which he made sure was every day.
The rest of the boys that were in the room introduced themselves and tried to cheer me up. A while later the nurse came in.
"Sorry boys but it's past visiting hours. Marnee needs to get some rest and so do the other patients. Come back tomorrow please."
The boys said bye and left, telling me that they would be back tomorrow.
I couldn't understand why a bunch of guys would be interested in me or want me to get better. I barely knew them.
The only thing I wanted to do was to get out of this place and go home. I had no idea what my brother would say but I didn't want anyone to know what Josh had done to me. Most of the time I thought that my brother didn't care anyway. He was always busy with work to even notice whether I came home with bruises on my face or that I had been crying.
Most of the time I spent in my room on my own when I wasn't with Josh. I lived with my brother because our parents died when I was 16. He was 21 so he became my legal guardian until I came of age.
It had gotten late so I decided I would attempt to sleep. Hoping that tomorrow would be a better day. I snuggled up in the blue, cold, fabric sheets and closed my eyes praying to myself for a nightmare free night.
