I sit alone and read as gym class continues, the only time I pay attention is in an important class, this is just for exercise which I get plenty of, my job is secretary for the mayor of this town, I can never smile or be very friendly so to at least cover the can't smile part I have to wear a lucky cat mask, (I mean the Japanese lucky cat). The election for the mayor and his secretary was held two weeks ago, honestly I think the mayor only won because I was wearing this dumb mask, you must be thinking how hard it was for me to get the job, it was simple really, I actually have a brain unlike the other candidates, the pay is good, I was considered bad luck by the other ones. They were right because a very annoying candidate, Johnson Marlin, ''fell'' down a flight of stairs before the elections, heh heh.

“Hey Storm!” Three of my classmates, Joe, Isaac, and Alan run to me. I look at them.

“Wanna hang out? My parents have a pizza restaurant.” Joe says. “C'mon, it will be funner than reading.” She smiles.

“No, I have better things to do.” The school bell rings.

“Why not? What do you have to do that's better?” Isaac grabs my shoulder as I stand.

“That's none of your concern.” As I walk away I hear them whisper.

“Why is he so uptight? He never stops to have fun. He never even smiles, I wonder if he even knows how to smile and have fun.” Alan whispers.

“Lay it off, I mean, he seems busy.” Isaac says.

“Busy being a jerk.”

I walk into the mayor's office and pull the mask off it's hook and stand behind the counter. “Mr. mayor, what is your next project for making the town a better place?” I look to the door on my left, the mayor is in the middle of an interview. The mayor walks in, he's a round man, always in a suit and top hat, a black mustache, he's pretty nice too. He promised a lot of things and surprisingly he's fulfilled them.

“Well lately I have been noticing a lot of little kids on the streets, my next project is to find all the orphaned children of the town find loving homes. Storm?” I nod and write it down on a clipboard. The cameras turn to me.

“Mr. Storm, what do you think of the mayor's idea?”

“I think it's a great idea.”

“Surely, being his secretary means you were the first to hear of this?”

“No. He never told me.”

“Well this is our breaking news. Cut!” The reporter and her crew leave.

“So Storm, I never asked you this during the interview but where are your parents?”

“I'm an orphan.” I say.

“How come you never told me?!” He says absolutely amazed.

“Because I didn't want you to give me the job out of pity, besides, I don't need pity.”

(After work) I take off the mask and put it on it's hook and go outside, I walk onto the sidewalk then my heart stops, I dart back to the hotel and go into the lobby.

“Excuse me but I've finished my stay. Thank you.” I hand the receptionist my final pay and go into my apartment, I pick up my backpack, shove my books into it, and then I see the phone. I dial the number and wait for a moment.

“Hello, this is the mayor's office.”

“Hello mayor? This is Storm.”

“Oh Storm! What can I do ya for?”

“I'm quitting.”

“Whaaaat?! Why?!”

“I have to leave town.”
