Guzma grew up with a rather rough past. Being beaten with golf clubs and being talked down to by your father can turn anyone silent. Guzma spent most of his life like that, but when he turned 15 he had enough and beat his father back quite literally. He refused to talk to his parents ever since. There was always one person guzma could turn to and it was his childhood best friend and rival kukui. That friendship was broken when kukui stated "You deserve to get beaten!" of course he didn't mean it like that. It was after a battle after all. Guzma took it harshly and there's malice during their short times together now.
Personality
To the rest of the world, guzma is either seen as intimidating, or stupid. Many people see him and his team and stupid but they just like to have fun! To team skull, Guzma is a hero. He's like the father to every single grunt. He makes sure no boy, girl or any other gender have to to through what he did so takes care of every single grunt. This makes him rather empathetic and understanding of people's situations. However him and his team seem to get rather jealous of anyone that's happy with their life and they tend to go and destroy rich families homes. Getting him to open up is rather impossible, unless you're a part of team skull
