On holiday with my family. One minute, playing in the water with my brother. The next, lying face down in the mud with my body all bloody and my clothes all ripped. Slowly, I opened my eyes and all I saw was destruction. Whilst I was all alone, I noticed there was people calling for help or some dead on the hard ground as I recalled what had happened before.

*flashback*

It was windy. Hearing a big, rushing noise, I turned and was terrified to what was in front of me. There was a wave as big as a skyscraper, raising up to the clouds and non-hesitantly coming forward fast. People were running. The gargantuan thing was sweeping up everything in its path. I couldn’t move, I was paralysed with fear. Terrified, the threatening wave finally reached me. The last thing I heard was the scream of my brother and I before the outbreak hit us and we parted from each other in the deep, blue sea. -164

*end of flashback*

My head started aching as I hit a rock, trees flying past me, the water swallowing me, wanting revenge. After my memory refreshed itself of everything that had happened, I tried to get up from the muddy water beneath my body. Suddenly, I remembered Alex (my little brother) and I immediately limped around the place as fast as I could, trying to spot him. I called out his name. However, there was no response. ‘It’s no use’ I mumbled to myself, ‘I’ll never find him.’ Just as I was about to give up hope, something grabbed my leg from underneath a small sailboat lying in front of me. I jumped from surprise. It looked as if it was a hand, a bloody hand. Hesitating for a second, I reached for the boat and used all the strength I had left to lift the boat off of the creature that was stuck beneath. As the boat lifted, the figure became more and more visible. I gasped. I soon realised that it was my little brother. Weirdly, I managed to lift the boat faster and throw it over somewhere else, I don’t know if it was because I got stronger from either being less tired or from seeing my poor, hurt baby brother. I held him in my arms as he wrapped his around me. Our blood, sweat and tears were colliding together as if this was a movie. In the corner of my eye, I slightly saw a few men walking this way with their heads turning, searching for something. I pulled Alex out of the way as soon as I saw them and we hid behind a broken wall, peering round the side to see what was going on. Men, with soaking wet pirate clothes and long, greasy hair, coming this way. They had flashlights and big, leather boots on their feet. Confused, I turned back around to my brother but he was… gone? All of a sudden, I heard crunches coming from behind me but as soon as I turned my head back, I got pulled up by the collar, now staring into one of the boy’s eyes. Knowing that I couldn’t show any weakness, I acted confident (unlike what I was feeling inside) and asked him, “where’s my brother?” In a disgusted kind of way. -537

He replied with, “don’t worry, we’ll take care of him. It’s not like we’re gonna kill him or anything.” He started laughing and I just glared at him with a look that could kill.

Then, out of nowhere, another guy came, “ that’s enough Gustavo.” He spoke, his voice was kind and gentle, unlike Gustavo, who still had my collar in his hands. “The storm is getting worse and we came here to gather resources, not kidnap children,” the other guy said, pointing towards the storm. It was then that I realised that the storm was no yet over. Lightning sparkled in my eyes as I was scared yet stuck in a trance of curiosity by the danger that lay in front of me.

“But captain?” Gustavo started, which brought me out of my trance and back to reality, “what should we do with the girl then?” He sounded confused and patiently waited for the captain’s next orders. -694

The captain thought for a second, wondering what to do with me. “Take her on board with us, get her to her brother. She shouldn’t be alone out here. She’ll die.” Gustavo carried me on to the boat and, as much as I wanted to struggle, I knew that I had no choice and I had nowhere else to go. Pushing the door open, I heard someone crying in the room ahead of me. I had heard it a million times so I already knew who it was… Alex. -784
