"Alex!" I screamed. As soon as Gustavo let me go, I ran toward him, embracing his cold and frightened body in my arms. "Its ok, Alex. Everything is going to be okay. I promise"

"H-how do y-you know?" He investigated. I shook my head and simply replied with 'I don't know' but I just knew. I could feel it. With the cold, damp room surrounding us and the wind blowing in from inside the windows, we set off onto the sea, not having any clue where we were headed off to. Then, a couple if hours in to the journey, Gustavo stomped into the room and stared me in the eye. Alex was asleep so I tried to stay as quiet as possible. "the captain wants to see you" he explained. Reaching the door, Alex's voice made me stop in my tracks. My head turned toward him as I reassured him that it was okay before turning back around again and stepped out of the door way, trailing behind Gustavo. The rest of the boat was dark, quiet, creepy. The only sound to be heard is the noise of crashing waves against the ship's wood and the creaking of the floor boards as the workers walk by. Even darker than the rest of the ship, we come to the farther end of the boat and halt at a big wooden door. It's placed in a long, dark and narrow corridor with no other doors than this one, which said 'Captain's Office, do not disturb'.

"Go in" Gustavo suddenly said, pointing to the door in a creepy kind of way. I was hesitant, until, I finally managed to bring myself to reach for the door knob and slowly open the giant door.

Peaking my head through the door, the captain's head immediately turned towards me and our eyes met. We were staring at each other for what seemed like forever before I decided to look away and fake cough to get his attention. "oh, umm.. come in" he awkwardly said. I nodded and stepped through the door with my head down, staring at the oak, wooden floor. "please take a seat". After I sat down, I looked up at him and he started speaking again, "I don't believe we have been formally introduced, my name is Elijah. And you are?" he asked.

"Umm.. My name is Hayley. Nice to meet you" I quietly replied, shaking his soft hand gently.

"ahh, ok. Now, Hayley, tell me, why were you and your brother out there all alone? Where are your parents?" He gazed at me with concern in his eyes. I tried to avoid eye contact but it wasn't working very well. As I thought about my parents, my eyes started to get teary. 'What if they're dead?' I thought. The image of their lifeless bodies wouldn't disappear from my head. Tightly squeezing my eyelids together, I managed to reply with a simple "They're dead". My heart felt as if it had stopped from the sound of the words that had just left my mouth. A single teardrop fell down the side of my cheek as I was staring into nothingness.

Elijah sighed before saying "I'm sorry" in a sympathetic voice, "my parents are dead too, so I know how it feels"

"I-I'm sorry" I said back, lifting my head up to look at him.

Chuckling, he replied with 'Its ok, these things happen sometimes. You get used to it." He gave me a warming, reassuring smile and I almost immediately returned it. I didn't know why but I felt comfortable around him. He almost made me feel... safe?

After talking for a while, I was eventually let out of the room and the awkwardness left my body. It was as cold as ice and all I was wearing was a swimming costume and a little coat over the top. Shivering, I made my way back to the room where Alex was and quietly went inside. He was asleep. I didn't want to wake him up so I just tried to sleep too. However, I couldn't. I could fall asleep even for a second, I was tossing and turning and just couldn't sleep. Finally, I decided to take a walk around the boat to get an idea of where things are. I looked around, most of the doors were locked and the ones that weren't were basically empty. 'this is so boring' I thought to myself. Until, something caught my eye.
