Ryder sat outside of the ER, his heart hammering in his chest. He looked up when he heard the sound of footsteps. Jorge, Milton, and Robert. Ryder stood, "Why?" None of them said anything. "I don't give a shit if you're a cop. I want to know why the fuck would you make your sister go through so much pain by faking your death? And why you two would hide it from her?" From the way Jorge wasn't overly, over the moon, it told him Jorge knew about everything. "Because if she didn't think I was dead, it wouldn't work. She is famous, with her thinking I'm dead, the world would've found out, and so would Laughing Coffin. I hated doing it, but I had to. Especially when I found their source of how they were transporting the women they were trafficking." Milton explained to him. "It was going to be the only shot I had to get Laughing Coffin's eyes off of me, so I could do my job."
Ryder shook his head, "I should kill all of you." Ryder then sat back down, looking at the floor. His hands were caked in dried blood, but he didn't care. A nurse came out, but she didn't acknowledge them. They've been going back and forth for hours. The first time, he stopped one of them. They told him it would be a doctor who would tell him whether or not if she lives, and that was it. He felt like his heart had been ripped out of his body. "I can't loose her." He whispered but they all heard him. Milton had never someone so strong, look so broken. Love was funny that way. It could make a man strong enough to take over the world, or break him into a million pieces. He pulled out his phone, and scrolled through the photos they had taken last night. She was smiling, her eyes so bright. She was the angel to his devil. Milton sat next him, seeing the photos he was looking through. He had never seen his sister look so happy.
"I had asked her what she wanted to do if we survived. She told me she wanted to open a school for kids who were like her, because not every has someone like you in their life." Ryder told him. "She wanted a safe place for kids to go. She's too good for me, but I want her very much in my life." "What did you want if you survived?" Milton asked him. "A future with her." He replied so easily. After that they fell into silence, everyone waiting for the doctor to come out.
When he did, Ryder jumped to his feet, prepared for the worse. "She's stable, but I must inform you all, that it is possible she may never be able to walk." He told them. Never walk, never dance. "What are her chances?" Jorge asked him. "Right now, it's fifty fifty. The bullet that entered her, had nicked her spine as it exited through her back. She has a long recovery ahead of her, but she will live." The doctor told them. "She is awake, and she was told of the possibility. She's on the second floor, room fourteen if you'd like to see her." Ryder wanted to rush to the elevator, but Milton stopped him.
"I don't think she'd like seeing you covered in her blood." He told him. He looked down at himself, only then realizing how he must look. He nodded, "You're right. I need to get cleaned up." Milton patted his shoulder, "We'll tell her what's keeping you." Ryder nodded again, "Thanks."
Milton stood in front of the door to his room, his heart in his throat, butterflies in his stomach. He went in, and saw her sitting up in bed, looking out the window, watching the sun rise. She turned and looked at him. Tears filled her eyes as she glared at him, then moved that glare to Jorge and Robert when they came in. "I'm saving my energy for when I see Ryder, but just know you three are in for the ass kicking of a life time when I get out of here. Now where is he?" "I made him go get cleaned up since he was still covered in blood from when he tried stopping the bleeding." Milton told her. "I'm really sorry Brittney." "You should be. That goes for all of you." She told them. They all looked down, not wanting to meet her eyes.
Ryder did his best to hurry up to get back to the hospital. When he got there, he was happy to see she was still awake. She gave him a smile and he broke. He held her close, crying on her shoulder. She held him, her fingers running through his hair, "We made it Ryder." He lifted his head to kiss her. He put all of his fears, his relief, and love into that one kiss and she returned it with her own. "We made it." He whispered against her lips. The worse of it was over now. No more threats. No more crimes. He could live the life he wants. He can be the man he wants to be.
After she fell asleep, he stayed by her side. He watched as person after person from gang members to celebrities, to crew members she worked with came and brought her cards, flowers, and gifts. When it was time for the news Ryder turned it on. Milton was before a press conference. "Yes, my death was faked. It was necessary to stop a women trafficking organization ran by Laughing Coffin's leader. As many of you know, I am a member of Stone Edge, but I am also a cop. I worked along side the Stone Edge gang, who had gone straight since Ryder Hayes, took the position as leader a few years ago. While part of Stone Edge, we worked to get drugs off the street. As you may have seen from the reports that were made public, Ryder Hayes and my sister were in fact at the scene. My sister had been shot by Sebastian, but she will be fine. We ask all reporters who wish to speak to her, must get permission. Of course I'm not going to tell you, who you have to get permission from. Any questions?"
"Why has the leader of Stone Edge been acting as your sister's body guard?" One reporter asked him. "Because he is my close friend and after Laughing Coffin attacked her at the concert he wanted to protect her." Milton replied. "Rumors say that she has joined Stone Edge, is that true?" Another asked him. He nodded, "She indeed has." It wasn't a answer he could lie about. Laughing Coffin made sure to expose that right before the meeting that night. It hasn't changed what people think of her though. "Is it true she and the leader of Stone Edge are together?" Another reporter asked him. Milton smirked, "They are. So good luck getting to her with your questions." He then ended it there.
