August's POV
I was humming to the tune of the music in my earbuds, it was Unravel on repeat if you must know, and walking down the path nearby the cliff side. I had two freshly made coffees in my hands, the sweet aroma of cinnamon filling the air. My feet stepped in tune to the part of the song I was on before the pace of the music picked up and my footfalls ticked out of rhythm.
I stopped walking to take in the view from off the cliff, the ocean was a beautiful blue starting from a sky near the shore and slowly fading to a indigo as the ocean became a deeper abyss. The breeze was fresh and clean, so unlike the cities I grew up in.
Smiling, I continued on my way to the destination I had set for me and Edward to meet. My feet scuffed against the dirt road, pebbles tumbling in their wake. A few minutes passed of walking and humming and I came upon a little bench shaded by the overhanging branches of a nearby tree. On the bench sat a beautiful man with grayish-black hair and the purest cerulean eyes I had ever seen — Edward was his name.
"Eds!" I called out in greeting while waving, the coffee in that hand sloshed around in the cup. Edward tore his mind away from whatever world he'd wandered into and looked at me. The edges of his mouth turned up in a smile able to light up the entire sea.
"Hello August," he said, his voice fluid and smooth. I sat down next to him on the bench, taking my earbuds out while I was at it, and held a coffee cup out to him. He took it with a grateful smile and took a long, deep sip. Edward sighed, steam streaming out from his mouth into the cold, crisp air.
I turned my head away from him and sipped at my own coffee.
"It's a beautiful day today," he said while his stunning blue eyes surveyed the ocean. I nodded and mumbled an agreement into the rim of my cup.
"So what is it you wanted to tell me?" He asked, looking to me. I looked back, setting my coffee on the bench.
"Edward," I began. "If you ever have anything to tell me you can." He stiffened a bit and turned his gaze away, pressing the ridge of his nose against his cup. I could have sworn his cheeks looked a bit more rosy but with the cold weather I couldn't tell.
"I've noticed you've been going to the beach more often but you never go in the water," I said, leaning back on the bench and staring at the intertwining branches above.
I heard a nervous chuckle from him before he answered, "It's winter, the water's cold."
"You've never been bothered by cold water before though."
"True..." I heard a sigh and the quiet whisper of coffee skimming over the paper of the cup as Edward took another sip. I closed my eyes and leaned towards him, my head resting on his shoulder.
"Do you not like me anymore? Is that it?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper. Edward choked on his coffee, surprised.
"Why would you say something like that?" He exclaimed, grabbing me by the shoulders. I opened my eyes to see those blue eyes flecked with hurt.
"I'm sorry," I started, looking away towards the ocean. I heard a small rustle and felt something warm and fuzzy wrap around my neck. I looked back at Edward, his expression soft and smiling. The scarf he put around my neck covered my face a bit, kinda like a mask, and smelled like the ocean, salty and fresh.
"It's very warm," I said, my voice muffled from the thick material of the scarf. "It smells nice too."
"You can keep it if you want."
"I already have an entire closet just of the clothes you give me."
"I just don't want you to be cold, that's all."
"Your terrible at changing the subject."
His smile dimmed and he drew his hands away from me. I frowned through the scarf. "Seriously though, is something wrong?"
"Nothing important," he said softly. A breeze blew by causing me to shiver. Edward put his arm around my shoulders, hugging me close to him. He was warm, very warm. Thank God I had this scarf on or else he would have seen me blush.
Edward's POV
After talking for several minutes and drinking the rest of our coffee, I drove August back home. He sat next to me, still wearing the scarf I gave him. He looked cute in it. I hoped he would keep it.
I dropped him off at his house and as he got out of my car he turned to me with a smile.
"Are you free tomorrow? I wanna go to our little 'spot' if that's ok." He winked and I smiled back at him.
"Sure, same time as today?"
He nodded and closed the door of my car. I stayed for a few seconds to make sure he was fine before driving back to my house.
Once I got there I filled up the bathtub with warm water and striped. I got in and basically passed out for four hours.
