NOVEMBER FIFTEENTH, 1485

WESTMINSTER PALACE, ENGLAND

''HE IS GORGEOUS, ISN'T HE?'' Elizabeth heard her younger sister, Cecily, wonder rather loudly next to her, and even though the hall they were in was filled with nobles - that did not mind to be quiet - for the ball the king was throwing, a few men still heard her, and Elizabeth saw they quickly look at her and her sister before averting their eyes somewhere else.

It wasn't an uncommon occurrence to hear Cecily gush over handsome males, and Elizabeth was more than used to it by then, not even batting an eyelash at her sister's words, even though she supposed she should be bothered; after all, Cecily had her eyes fixated on the King Henry Tudor as she spoke, and coincidentally, he was Elizabeth's betrothed.

However, Elizabeth couldn't bring herself to care about the disloyal interest her sister was showing towards the man she was to marry; after all, she hadn't chosen to marry him, and she most certainly did not feel anything towards him other than distrust.

''Yes, he is, sister.'' she said, if only to appease her amazed sister. Cecily looked at her then, finally taking her eyes off Elizabeth's future husband, and the older girl could see the envy hidden behind her sister's green colored eyes. It made Elizabeth uneasy, and she was quick to avert her eyes from Cecily's, hurriedly creating an excuse to escape her jealous gaze and run to the other side of the hall in which she was forced to stay in throughout the evening. Usually, Elizabeth would stand up to her sister, meeting her gaze with a defying glare of her own, challenging her to say a word. However, Elizabeth had no wish to fight with her sister in that moment, surrounded by pretentious and arrogant nobles who would not wait to create absurd rumors about them.

Elizabeth knew the English court, more than most would wish to, if she was being sincere. When she was only the young daughter of King Edward IV, she had seen the good side of it. The pamper and the perks the nobles offered her made of her wondrous childhood even more extraordinary. It was only when she was older that she saw how the nobles took pleasure in spreading lies and rumors around the palace; how they easily destroyed reputations and lives and plotted against their own behind their backs while smiling once they were face to face with their enemies. However, it was when she was a part of the court herself that Elizabeth saw how truly treacherous the people there were. Once her uncle, Richard, allowed hers and her sister's entrance at the English court after he usurped the throne, Elizabeth finally experienced the sly ways of the nobles, and even though she hated almost every moment of her time at the court, it taught her many things. One of which was to never give a reason to the nobles to spread rumors about her. They could easily make a person's reputation be completely tarnished, and another thing that she learnt was that a person with a rotten reputation did not survive a long time in the English palace.
