I opened my eyes and stopped my alarm. 

7:06 a.m.

Ugh. Why does school even exist.

''Honey,wake up!''

Why do moms even exist.

''I'm up mom!''

''Come down for breakfast!''

''Be there in 5''

I sighed and rolled out of bed,heading to the bathroom.
I brush my teeth,my hair and manage to pull it into a messy ponytail.
I finally exit the bathroom and head downstairs,my mom and dad waiting for me at the kitchen table.

''Good morning.''

''Good morning,'' my mom answers followed by my dad with a 'morning'.

I sit down and grab some toast,tossing butter and jam all over the crusted warm bread and start munching on it like I've never eaten before.                                                                                                               The breakfast went quietly besides small talk between my parents and a few glares from my hungry cat,Rosie.After I ate I gave her some wet cat food and left early for school,after saying my goodbyes.

  I texted my best friends since kindergarten the other day and we all agreed to meet up at a café next to our high school to talk and have a snack.                                                                                                   I pulled into the parking lot next to the café,I locked my car and went inside.I ordered an iced  frappé and sat at a table. I pulled my phone out of my purse and pressed it against my ear.

''Hey Mads what's up?''

''Hi Ivy I'm at the café,where are you guys?''

''We're almost there,got stuck into some traffick''

''Okay,drive safe,see you''

''See you soon''

    In about 15 minutes the three of us were sitting and having a heated conversation about whether strawberry ice-cream or pistachio ice-cream was better when the whole restaurant went quiet.                                                                                                                                                                                    Phones started buzzing and on the TV was an emergency broadcast alert.Everyone was freaking out as the message on screen was being read out loud; ''This is not a test.This is not a test.A viral outbreak has occurred.It is highly contagious.Citizens are advised to get to safety as fast as possible.Do not panic.If in contact with the infected contact the nearest hospital IMMEDIATELY.''

''We have to go.NOW,'' I barely heard Nick under all the yelling.

We rushed outside and got inside my car,since it was the nearest to the entrance and drove off towards my house.

''What do you guys think this is?,'' Ivy questioned

''I don't know but in any case,we have t-

I was cut off by my phone ringing.The ID of the caller read 'Mom'. She was probably worried.

''Ivy answer for me please?Tell her we're coming and to not worry''

She uttered an 'okay' and answered the phone,explaining my mom the situation we were in. I could sense her distress and concern through the phone but we were almost there,she had nothing to worry about.
We arrived and dad opened the door for us and after we entered he locked it and motioned for us to go into the living room.
We all sat down on the couch,scared and sullen,waiting for my parents.

Nick broke the silence;

''I'm gonna call my dad,Ivy you should call your parents too,'' he stated taking the phone out of his pocket.

''They're out of state,they should be okay for now'' Ivy said
 

My dad walked in with a backpack and some...handguns?

''I know what you're thinking.Why the guns?Just in case.I want you to be safe.I'd even teach you how to shoot but we don't really have time for that''

He handed me a grey handgun,and the other two he was holding went to Nick and Ivy.

''There's ammo for all of them in the backpack,and some other gear you might need.For now I think you should stay here but..as I said before just in case'' he said

''Thanks,Owen'' Nick gave a small smile running his hand through his fair hair.

''Don't thank me,it's for safety. Your dad would do the same. Before I forget, attach the surpressors from the backpack on them,the lesser the noise the better.''

We took out the coal dark silencers and clicked them in place on the barrels of our guns.

''Is this okay?''I asked,showing my dad the guns.

''Sorry to interrupt but my dad isn't answering my calls,I need to go home to check on him'' Nick spoke

''We'll come with you''

''Who allowed you?'' my mom stepped in the room staring me down with red puffy eyes.

''He's my best friend mom, I don't need someone to allow me to help him.We're leaving now.''I huffed at her and headed towards the door with Ivory and Nick behind me.

''Please be careful!''                                                                                                                                                             I heard my mom uttering before I closed the door and we got into the car,driving through the hell hole this town had become.
