"Alexia, are you still with us?" Mrs. DelMakers eyes glared as she paused her lecture and turned to face me. She fidgeted with the cap from a whiteboard marker while pursing her lips. My head swung up as I heard my name. I looked around to see all eyes on me, the blue haired girl that sat in front of me, four eyes across the room, licking her lips and pushing up her glasses from the rim, adjusting its fit. Brace-face behind me, sighing in a sort of disappointment.
I am so mean.
"Yeah, sorry, I just laid my head down for a second." I gave a small huffy breath and hid it with a smile.
"Well,-" she put her hands on her hips. "You can lay down your head in my class after school." She turned to face the board but stopped, and looked back at me, only to see me rolling my eyes.
"Never mind, on second thought, you can see me in the office after school for a detention." I jumped up in my seat, heat rushing to my face, and anger in my words.
"What the hell, are you serious?? For what?" She whipped her head around and stepped closer.
"You can go right now actually." Her voice was deathly still and calm.
"Anywhere is better than here." I grabbed my backpack and began to walk out. I heard boys 'oohing' as I opened the door.
"Now what are you doing?"
"Le-" Another voice cuts me off.
"Im going with her." I turned to identify who spoke even though the deep voice had already given it away.
Lukas.
"I don't need your help." I eyed him as I entered the hallway, he followed me out and closed the door behind the two of us.
"Woah, woah, woah." He threw his hands in the air in false surrender, hiding the smile crawling on his lips. "Who said anything about me helping you. I just wanted to get out of that stupid ass class." We turned left at the end of the hall and made our way to the office.
I got close to the door, but just as I began stretching out my hand, Lukas got in front of me.
"Ma'am." He opened the door wide and bowed. "After you, beautiful." I began to blush as he showed me through.
"Hey, Andrea." First name basis with the receptionist? That's questionable, I thought to myself. He walked closer to the desk and placed his forearm on the counter. He shifted his weight so he was leaning against it, and placed one foot behind the other.
"Hello there Lukas, what can I do for you today?" Andrea was probably around her mid-forties. She had black rimmed glasses with wide lenses that sat plainly on the bridge of her nose. Her blonde hair thrown into a disastrous ponytail. Her eyes creased as she smiled, but the lines in her face didn't look like they were from age. She was wearing a light blue blouse with a cute lace pattern by the collar. I looked at her desk, it was nice, neat, and organized. She had pictures of three girls, and based on the way they were all smiling and hugging, I figured they were family.
"Lex here got sent to the office-" he elbowed me in the stomach as he spoke. "For being a disruption, and I, being the hero that I am, decided to walk her down." She looked back and forth between Lukas and me briefly, her smile faded momentarily. Within seconds she was back to her cheery self.
"Hero eh?" She giggled to herself. Lukas raised his eyebrows at her and gave a goofy grin. Shaking his finger he responded with a smart ass comeback.
"Not all heroes wear capes." And with that, she shook her head and gave a soft chuckle.
"Alright, well Im gonna have to have you two take a seat right over there." She pointed at two empty lounge chairs in the corner of the office. "I'll send a counselor over to talk with you guys shortly, figure out what happened, and then I'll keep you here till second hour begins so you don't have to return to that class. After that though, you're outta here and you need to get back to your schedule."
