The blonde girl

Part 1: Hide and seek

''Are you ready?'', Josh asked while entering the diving board.

''You're the one who's jumping'', I replied before Josh's head was pretty much under the water.

And that's basically how I spent the most of my holidays this summer. Don't get me wrong, I do like swimming, but It's just not how I pictured myself spending my last days here. Or maybe not the last days, but most likely the last summer. And I'm not saying this because I'm dying or anthing, it's mostly because I'm not ready to start over. By starting over, I mean attending a new school, finding new friends and being a stranger to basically everyone. 

''Aiden, you looking at your stomach isn't gonna make it fitter than mine'', Josh yelled from the water.''

I immediately stopped looking at my stomach and gave Josh a ''yeah right''-face. It's actually not the fact that Josh is fitter than me, it's the fact that he's a bit more cocky. Or at least that's what I've always imagined. But I have pretty much spent my entire life with him so it wouldn't surprise me if some of his cockyness had effected me.

''Can we please do something else now'', Vemund shouted, knowing that Josh always was the one who made the decisions.

Just as Josh was about to answer, my ears were amazed by another more soft voice from behind.

''Excuse me, could you please tell me where the toilet is?'', the girl asked.

She was wearing a light blue bikini that fit perfectly with her long blonde hair and some sandals in the same pink colour as the little girl beside her. And before I even got the chance to reply, the blonde girl added:

''My little sister really has to use the bathroom.''

''It's on the other side of that building over there'', I replied while I tried not stare at her well-trained body. 

Barely a few seconds after she thanked me and left, Vemund easily kicked my leg. My very first response was therefore to give him my ''what was that for''-face. And that's when he rolled his eyes and said:

''Dude, there's only one building on this beach. She pretty much knew that the toilet was gonna be in that building, but not which door that would lead to it.''

Even though Vemud most likely was right, I probably wouldn't have been able to come up with that anyway considering that I was too busy admiring her looks. 

''If you weren't too busy staring and avoiding a conversation, maybe you could have gotten a number or something'', Josh replied while he put his wet towel on the sand. 

''Aiden? Do you seriously think Aiden could have gotten a number from a girl like that? No way man.'', Vemund laughed. 

To be honest I wouldn't consider myself a bad looking guy, but more of a good looking guy that just prefers not to put that much effort into his hair. I'd like to think that have some pretty green eyes which really fits with my short brown hair. But even when a comment like that comes from your friends, it still hurts a bit. But I quickly brushed it off before the three of us went to get something to drink. 

On our way there, I couldn't help but noticing that the girls we met earlier were sitting at one of the tables. They were both eating some sandwiches and drinking the orange juice from the bar. Of course Josh and Vemund couldn't help but noticing that I was looking at them and came up with the terrible idea that we were all gonna sit together. I'm not sure that it was purely because of me, because something also told me that they were definately interested in getting to know the blonde girl as well.

In order to avoid the awkwardness of starting a conversation with them, I made sure to use a bit more time on tapping the water from the sink. But when I looked back at the table, I could tell that Josh and Vemund were both trying to impress her. I just felt sorry for her little sister who had to witness all of that.

''Aiden, get over here!'', Josh yelled knowing that I was trying to avoid the whole situation.

We all sat around a quite tiny and round table, which basically lead to me sitting between Vemund and the little sister. And to me it seemed like the pretty blonde girl didn't want the attention she was getting from the boys. But before she properly noticied me again, her little sister grabbed my arm and asked:

''Can we please play hide and seek? I'm bored.''

''Jenny, I'm sure these guys probably have other plans'', the blonde girl explained as she was probably just trying to avoid making us having to play with her sister. 

''I wouldn't mind playing hide and seek with you'', I told the little girl.

Her big sister turned her face against me and gave me a bit of an odd look. But before we knew it, we were all basically playing hide and seek together. Of course we got a few other people to join, but I was constantly stuck with the little sister. Not that it was a bad thing, but at the same time I wish I could of talked a bit more with her older sister. But that actually turned out to be Josh and Vemund's job. 

Meanwhile me and Jenny hid behind a big rock which was far away from the others. She still squeezed my hand even though we were gonna be found anyway. And it didn't take long before we both could hear someone getting closer to the rock. As she squeezed my hand even harder we both also decided to close our eyes.

''You know, Jenny is basically just using you so she can have someone to swim with later'', the blonde girl insisted while I slowly opened my eyes.

''That is not true! And if it was, that it's just because you don't like swimming with me.'', Jenny yelled back.

''I don't mind. And besides, listening to Josh and Vemund talk all day is much worse'', I replied. 

Jenny clapped her hands and the blonde girl gave me a little smile.

''Sure you don't mind hanging out with us for a while?'', the blonde girl asked. 

I wasn't entirely sure if she meant just me or if she also wanted Josh and Vemund to tag along. But no matter which one she meant, I gave her a nod anyway. But that's when it hit me that I basically didn't even know her real name. 

''I've just got to ask one thing. What's your name?'', I asked.
