You walked down the slightly busy street. You just got out of college and decided to go to the new café that just opened. You watched the cars pass and you remembered the faces of the people who walked past you.
You arrived at the café, and you walked inside to take your order. You looked at the menu and said, "Um, I'll have an espresso and a bagel please."
"Alright, that'll be 3.99," the cashier said.
The cashier was a female, looked about 16 or 17. She had light blond hair and ocean blue eyes.
You handed her the money and walked to the other part of the counter where you got your order.
The cashier walked over with your snack after coming out from the small kitchen. "Have a great day," she said with a smile.
"Thank you," you said as you grabbed your food and sat down at a table. You looked outside and saw a familiar face.
It was a male, and he looked 19. He was clearly Korean, but he naturally had double-eyelids. He had dyed vibrant hair styled up. That wasn't just a stranger, that was your best friend, Park Chanyeol.
He caught you as he passed by you and smiled, quickly running back so he could walk into the café. "Y/N! Hey!" he exclaimed.
You smiled. "Hey Chanyeol," you said as you took a sip of your espresso. "How's your day?"
"It's been alright. Boxing club was, um, painful," he said. You took a moment to look at his face. It had bruises and scratches all over it.
"What happened?" you asked.
"We were doing hand-to-hand combat today," he replied.
You nodded. "You hungry?"
"Yeah, starving actually." He looked at the menu.
"Here," you said quietly as you cut your bagel in half and handed him a piece. How quickly he scarfed down the bagel nearly scared you.
You looked out of the window. "I really don't wanna go home," you said quietly.
Chanyeol let out a face that showed sympathy. "I'm sorry, you really deserve a better mom."
You shook your head. "It's fine, I just have to do my chores then stay in my room."
He furrowed his eyebrows and took out his phone. "I wonder what day I have available..."
You placed your hand over his and set his phone down. "No, it's fine, it really is." Your posture straightened. "Let's lighten the subject."
"Alright, um, did you hear that there's a new foreign exchange student?" he asked.
"What? No, what are they like?" you asked.
"From what I heard, his name is Jongin. He came from Korea, like me," Chanyeol replied. "I saw him in the office."
You nodded. "Does he have any classes with me?"
"Actually, he has 3rd hour with us."
You let out a smile. "Nice!" You checked the time on your phone. "Shit, I'm late. I'll see you."
"Uh, yeah, see you," he said as you gave him a high five.
You quickly left the café and walked down the sidewalk to your mother's apartment. You were too broke to buy your own apartment and all the school dorms were taken up by other students, so you had to live with your mother.
You rushed up the stairs and quickly unlocked the door and walked inside the small apartment.
Your mom was sitting in her recliner smoking a cigarette. "You're late."
You lowered your head. "I know, I'm sorry." You walked into the living room. "I stopped at the new café and I saw Chanyeol, so-"
"You know not to talk to boys. All they have on their God damn minds is sex," she scolded.
"Mom, you met Chanyeol, you know he's gay," you protested.
"And I don't support gay people. You know this." She put out her cigarette.
You made a face. "Sorry." You then started walking to your room before you heard her start speaking again.
"You're father stopped by."
You turned your hands into fists and almost immediately started crying. You're father was much worse than your mom, he did drugs, got sent to prison, and abused both you and your mother. You're mother knew how much you hated your dad and how he made you cry.
"Don't bring him up!" you shouted.
"Hey! Don't snap on me! I'm your mother, you should know how to respect me!" she screamed.
"And you should know not to bring him up," you said as you walked into your room and slammed the door shut.
"Oh you little shit," you heard her say as she got up from her recliner. Suddenly, she was banging on your door, demanding you to let her in.
"No! I know what you will do to me..." you said quietly.
She suddenly started picking at the lock and soon opened the door violently. "You little shit."
"No, no no!" you shouted as she came closer to you.
She suddenly grabbed a fist full of your hair and shoved you to the ground. She turned you around so you were facing her. "Don't you know respect?! I own this shit here, meaning you don't damage or slam any of it! You hear me?"
You cried. "Yes, yes I'm sorry mom!"
She then slapped you and let go of your hair, causing you to hit your head on the ground, then she left the room. You slowly got up and walked to the mirror in your room. There was a red mark on your face. You lifted up your shirt slightly on your back, and there was a large bruise. You touched it, and it gave off pain.
You let out a sigh and walked to your bed and jumped on it, and for a while you cried. And you cried hard.
