When I was born I had an identical twin but she was too small and doctors knew she would die soon. When my mother learned that she would lose a child she didn't want a thing to do with it. so it died without even being held by its flesh and blood. but I was born into a wealthy family in a big-ish town an hour away from Shyoak, Ohio. And before you ask yes my name really is Desert-Rose Vandervile. we were not known to be wealthy at least to no one that lived outside of our town. but since most people knew the last name I was never allowed to go to school. School would have been boring anyway since I am a "genius" I say this with quotations because I'm just two grades up from normal kids. but I did learn mostly from tutors who would get very frustrated because I would ace everything even pre-test. But my mom she didn't let anyone in or out except for the staff. I now look back and realize that I was alone like Boo Radley or Anna. when I was two my mom got pregnant. she was thrilled and we would go shopping and be out past the yard. when Molly was born my mom stopped working but I didn't see much of her anyways. My mom gets very jealous very fast and was raised with parents who had such backward beliefs like servants and wealthy people should not be friends, or if there isn't a private school nearby then your kid can be thought by tutors. so when I became friends with Jenifer one of the maid's kids my mom fired her mom just to separate use. When I was three I learned to read and by complete accident. Serena was a high authority staff member at my house she was in charge of all the maids and to inspect there work she was also a babysitter for me. one day my mom sent me to find her. And I walked into her room not thinking twice to knock when I saw her reading my fathers newspaper
Desert-Rose- Serena what are you doing? that's fathers favorite section
Serena-Miz Rose you ain't suppose to see me reading and don't you know to knock!
She was a strong looking woman with a thick southern accent. I was shocked by her response to me coming in it was like she was scared.
Serena- where is your mama I thought she was taking you today.
Desert-Rose- Yes she is but she sent me to get you and you didn't answer me!
Serena- I'm reading it your papa said I could. Now let's go before I get in trouble.
Serena's mom took care of my father and his three older siblings when they were young. she retired when my dad graduated from college. He then took Serena as an employer to his house that he had bought and started a business. My grandpa said that he and grandma thought he had gotten married with her and that's why he ran off. But that was not true. Now she's following her mother's footsteps.
