"Dancing...is an art."
The voice of your tutor rang throughout the dance hall, capturing the attention of the current residents occupied inside.
Currently, you and a few other poor souls were situated inside the fairly large room, awaiting your next instructions to start your lesson. The room was starting to get hot and stuffy, and you nervously pulled at the collar of your dress, hoping to get a sliver of cool air.
Dance lessons always made you feel sweaty.
To be quite honest, you liked to dance. It was one of the things you and your father shared in common, often taking trips out of the kingdom to see shows that were a once in a lifetime chance. It was a nice memory of your mother as well, who had devoted her life to dance before she got married to your father.
When you had initially told Zack about it, you learned that he had never danced in his life. Or cared to learn, rather.
Knights don't dance, dummy. He ruffled your hair, a smirk picking up at the ends of his mouth when you pouted. Dancing's lame anyway. You wanna learn how to put someone in a headlock?
And although you had agreed, that wasn't the point of that story.
Dancing was something you cherished – something you wanted to share with Zack. Now all you were worried about right now is whether or not Madame Angelique would assign Danny as your partner.
The thought of his hands on you, the sight of that unsettling smile, brought a shiver down your back.
Fortunately for you, Zack had been assigned to accompany you for the day, leaving you fairly relaxed for the most part. You knew Danny wouldn't try anything skeezy with Zack in the room, though you still couldn't help but feel his gaze linger on you.
Now you only had to worry about Cathy and Eddie. While Eddie was sweet, Cathy was not. You had seen her laughing viciously behind her friend's backs, seen her put on the facade of a sweet princess.
Worst of all, it seems, she had her sights set on Zack – and only Zack.
I like the ones that play hard to get. She had said to you once, when another round of arguing lit up between the two. Although Zack knew how to go too far, he still wasn't gonna let her standby and talk to him like he was a play thing.
Eddie was...well, Eddie. He was a bit too childish for you, although sometimes you felt he could be overbearing. He and Zack had a 'secret' rivalry going on between the two of them, vying to get your attention, which made you laugh when Zack told you.
You realize halfway into daydreaming about the cool air of the castle that you should probably be paying attention to what Madame was saying.
You tuned in just as Madame explaining the significance of a waltz – dancing was an important presentation to nobles – to dance was to communicate, and she was damned if she let any of them leave without teaching them the proper way of a ballroom waltz.
"Now!" She clapped her hands, smiling pretty. "Shall we get into pairs?"
It went as well as you'd expect.
You had the fortunate luck to end up with Eddie, who seemed smug about the entire thing. His aura seemed to set both Zack and Danny off, who gave him glares when they thought you weren't looking.
