"Hey Mari, can I borrow a pencil?" Alya asked. She, along with the rest of the class, were paired up to work on a project in science. The teacher was gone that day, and in her place was a sub that had done nothing but take attendance and then immediately fall asleep at the desk. Which was fine, everyone was planning on having a work day anyway.
"Yeah sure Alya. I'll grab one from my purse, just let me finish this design on the poster." She said as she drew away on the paper.
"It's ok, I'll get it." Alya said as she reached out towards Marinette's purse. Mari's eyes widened as she saw her friend's hands go towards the bag that hid her Kwami. Out of pure instinct she grabbed the purse away from her and held it protectively to her chest.
"NO DON'T TOUCH IT, YOU'LL SEE HER!" She yelled. She covered her mouth but it was too late. Every eye in the class was glued on her. Marinette was almost always a quiet girl so her sudden outburst made no sense, especially to Alya.
"Girl are you ok?" Her concerned friend asked.
"I-I um I" Marinette was cut off as the class began to bombard her with questions
"What's so special about the bag?"
"What's in there?"
"Mari why do you always have that bag with you anyway?"
"Are you ok marinette?"
"Why did you scream?"
"Let us see the bag come on!"

Mari felt panic rise in her chest. But none more so than when she felt someone snatch her bag from her grasp. She watched in horror as Sabrina took the bag over to Chloé and obediently handed it to her.
"Let's see what maritrash has to hide." Chloé said. She laughed nastily as she unfastened the purse and looked inside. The thing she saw caused her face to go white. She had seen one of these before. She had met pollen so she knew what a kwami was. This was unmistakably the ladybug kwami. She looked up at marinette and sure enough, there were the earrings.
Chloé never really knew how to process disappointment and regret, she couldn't believe she had been so mean to her idle. So, she did the only thing she knew how to. She got angry.
"How. Dare. You? HOW DARE YOU?!?!?" She screamed. Marinette winced. She knew Chloé knew her secret now. And soon the whole class would too.
Everyone, even Adrien and Alya weren't sure what to do about this confrontation, so they just stood by.
"OF ALL PEOPLE, IT HAD TO BE YOU?!?" Tears were streaming down marinette's face, but Chloé's makeup was also ruined by tears. "YOU TRAITOR!!! I TRUSTED YOU!!! I LOOKED UP TO YOU! I-I HATE YOU MARINETTE DUPAIN-CHENG!!!" She screamed. Adrian finally came to his senses. He didn't understand what was going on but he did know one thing. He needed to stop this before it got out of hand.
"Careful Chloé, you'll attract an akuma!" He warned. Sure enough a black butterfly was flying in the window as he spoke. Marinette shocked everyone further by exclaiming
"Everyone get behind me!" She pulled everyone to one side of the room with surprising strength, and went to the other side of the room.
"Hey! Akuma! Over here!" She called it away from the group. It listened attracted to her shattered emotional state.
"MARINETTE!!! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!?" Alya yelled terrified for her best friend's safety. Mari just looked over at her with a sad smile. She looked at Adrien who had just as frightened an expression, then to nino.
"I'm sorry..." was all she said before calling out the magic words in front of all of them
"TIKKI SPOTS ON!!!" She transformed in a grand display of pink and white light, turning into the heroine they all know so well.
"Ladybug..." Adrian uttered in awe. His friend, they shy girl who sat behind him in class... was the love of his life. THE ladybug. He didn't have time to process this as he watched his lady attach the akuma with everything she had, tears running down her face all the while. He had to help her, but he couldn't without revealing his secret too. And he couldn't sneak away now, not with everyone right there watching.
So, he watched helplessly as the love of his life, fought to capture the loose akuma, whilst trying to simultaneously fight off her own emotions. She was fighting a losing battle.
She finally extended her yo-yo towards the akuma and hit it straight on. However, instead of the akuma being cleansed, it infected the yo-yo. The crowd gasped as ladybug held her head and bent down in agony, trying to fight off hawkmoth's influence. She looked at her classmates with eyes covered with hawkmoth's insignia.

"R-run..."

Was the last thing she said before she fainted from the mental battle, and purple bubbles infected her body.
