It was simple to watch pain. To watch the tears cascading down her sister's face as she walked through the door, throwing a bag of starbursts at her sister.

"Conner says Happy Birthday." She sniffled. "I hope you don't mind. It's over. I broke up with him."

The young sister caught the bag, but the fact didn't faze her. She knew it was coming, they all did.

She placed down the temptation and stood up, hugging her sister.

"It gets better" The younger sister promised "It has to."

The older sister nodded, but accepted the hug.

The younger sister pretended not to feel the tears or the shaking.

"Yeah" the sister tried to tell herself. "Better. Happy Birthday, I got homework."

The younger sister watched as she marched off, watching the tears reflect the light.

It was simple to watch pain, not easy.
