A/N : CAI XUKUN IS TOO BEAUTIFUL FOR THE HUMAN RACE SASDFCHBBJKJFSG BYE
***
Yeonsoo has her hands clasped together as she stands at the door to Yanjun's cabin, the tea on his desk still untouched, which somehow sets her off, closing the door behind her.
“Do you remember the Cai murder case?” Yanjun asks, making Yeonsoo nod, “the one where the entire family was killed, except the one who was alive, by his own girlfriend?”
“The same girlfriend was suspected of the murder of the then EIC of Summit Publishing, whose daughter was the girlfriend's roommate, who also was killed.”
The pen in Yanjun's hand nods alongside, “now Yeonsoo?”
“Yes, Sir?”
“If your husband is killed-"
Yeonsoo lets out a small cough.
“would you withdraw the case? Or like, not press charges? At all? Even after losing your child to some murder too?”
“No, Sir.”
“Exactly.”
“But, why are we talking about that incident?”
Yanjun shakes his head sideways, his mouth pressed in a thin line, eyes focused on the back of the nameplate on which his name and position is etched, “this is much more complicated than it seems on the surface.”
A knock on the door to Yanjun's cabin sounds, earning the attention of the two inside with Yanjun’s posture changing.
Jiayi walks in, a small smile on her face, her hair is in a ponytail for the rarest view, followed by Justin, adjusting his glasses, throwing warm smiles at the two.
“How have you been?” Justin extends his hand towards Yanjun for him to take it, asking with a smile.
“Good,” he says, with a smile, “how about you?”
“Amazing.”
With the rest sitting on the couch and across from each other, Yeonsoo places three cups of tea on the centre table as Yanjun looks at Justin with a smile. “How are you liking it so far at Summit?”
“Really good.”
The answer seems rehearsed.
“Sure.”
Jiayi picks one of the cups up, placing the rim against her lips, eyeing Yanjun as she takes a sip.
“Now,” Yanjun leans back on the couch, “let's get to the point. Tell me about the incident involving your sister and the Cai family.”
Yeonsoo immediately closes the door behind her after walking out of the cabin. Justin’s hands get a little cold as his smile seems to falter for a second there.
“What?”
“Cai family. Wang Miranda. Wang Michelle. Your sister. Tell me what you know about it.”
Justin looks from Yanjun to Jiayi, her gaze holding a position that makes Justin look back at Yanjun and lick his lower lip, “Cai Xukun framed my sister for the murders he committed.”
“Right,” he nods, “go on.”
--
Yeonsoo knocks on the door, twice, before opening it, with a smile on, “another batch of tea.”
Jiayi leans back, her eyebrows frowned, her eyes glazed for a moment before replacing it with the professionalism she's been carrying around for the last couple of years.
Yeonsoo leans down and places the tray on the centre table, before walking out of the cabin for the second time.
“Are you okay?” Yanjun walks over, placing a hand on Jiayi’s shoulder, Justin getting the urge to remove his hand away from her shoulder for some weird reason, but that urge disappeared as soon as it came.
Jiayi nods, motioning for Yanjun to get back to his seat, the latter speaking.
“I'm thinking about opening the case.”
Surprise takes over the features of Justin, as he looks at Jiayi who's staring back at him, eyes determined, his stomach dropping for once because of how overwhelming the entire situation seems to him, the flashback of every other lawyer refusing to take up his sister's case because of the intensity of charges and the family involved. But now that he's sitting across from Lin Yanjun whose words doesn't seem to betray his posture and the sincerity being apparent, Justin gets washed over by a momentary overwhelming sensation, his eyes threatening to contradict his posture before he blinks repeatedly and looks at Yanjun to continue.
“I've searched around,” Yanjun says, getting up from his seat and walking over to one of the cabinets, pulling out a file, “without Yeonsoo knowing,” to which Jiayi nods, knowing how Yeonsoo is basically Yanjun's other half when it comes to cases, how hard it might have been for him to keep it a secret from her.
“And,” Yanjun walks back to the couch, sitting across from the two as he places the file on the centre table, “there has been some lead.”
Justin doesn't touch the file.
“First being the witness,” Yanjun looks at Jiayi, “on the Michelle murder case. Second being the fact that Cai Wei, the older brother, was dead before y/n stepped on the campus.”
Justin stares at the file for a moment, before looking at Yanjun, as if asking him to continue, “the gun found, and supposedly used, on scene was registered under Cai Biyu, the mother. And when y/n's residence was searched, there was no evidence of presence of any suspicious instrument, let alone the gun.”
Justin has his eyebrows raised slightly, before his fingers made its way towards the file placed, touching the edge of the document.
“However,” Justin looks up at Yanjun when he speaks again, “we need more points to reopen the case, that can form the basis for the false accusations on your sister. We also need to find evidence against Cai Xukun, if we're planning on to put him to trial.”
Jiayi shifts slightly and smiles to herself, the change in posture notifying Justin as he looks towards her, wanting to ask the reason behind her smile.
“She's smiling because I've been using we instead of you,” Yanjun says, shaking his head sideways, to which Justin frowns, clearly confused.
“Jiayi contacted me some time back, saying she wanted me to reopen the Cais murder case. I told her to gather evidence, and convince me to open it,” Yanjun picks up the file and opens it, “I don't do charity,” he stops at one part, distances it wide open and places it in front of Justin, “and so, she did convince me.”
It's a picture of Wu Shen, his details listed below, “he's the brother of Cai Xukun's psychiatrist.”
Justin looks at Jiayi, who's looking back at him with a small smile, somehow answering his question. Is that why you were stressing on bringing Wu Shen to the company?
“How does it help?” Justin clears his throat before asking, realising his throat has been dry from being silent the entire time.
“Cai Xukun's psychiatrist has been off the country ever since Cai Xukun was let out of the psychiatric facility- I know, he said he was sent to a detention centre,” Yanjun says, after seeing the frown on Justin's face, “the psychiatrist has never come back, even for a day, and her details have been completely blocked so that no one could access any personal or professional information regarding her.”
“Now,” Yanjun places a finger on the picture of Wu Shen, “he has access to those, and files regarding Cai Xukun.”
“What type of files regarding Cai Xukun?”
“That Cai Xukun is a psychopath and has been showing violent psychopathic behaviour for years."***
Yeah, so I'm back after some time, and college is stressful hahakickmeinthefacehaha
