In my youth I could never fathom why story book villains wanted to destroy the world. After all, they lived there too. Why destroy your own home? I was young and optimistic. I was stupid. I thought that people were good at their core.
After a lifetime of heartache and disappointment I have a rudimentary grasp on the mind of a villain. People are not good. They are greedy and selfish. They'll use you and break you down until there is nothing left. If a comet came crashing to earth, I would welcome it. Humans offer nothing to the universe. Humans are like fire, they consume and destroy; nothing more. I find myself rooting for the villain. Let them win, let the world become inhabitable. The universe will get along fine without us.
