It's been almost a month since the alley incident. All had been resolved afterwards, and Peter had kept his promise to try and make it to more of his and Abby's dates.
After agreeing to meet up at the local diner for dinner that night, Peter had made sure to show up on time. He sat in their usual booth, waiting for Abby to show up.
After about an hour, Peter was still sitting alone, swirling the ice around in his drink. Abby was never this late. Heck, she was never late at all! Just as he was about to leave to go look for her at her house, his phone went off in his pocket. He pulled it out, seeing Abby's number. He immidiately answered. "Abby! Where are you? I'm getting worr-"
"HAAAAA HA HA HA HA HA!" a familiar voice cackled through the phone. "Such petty words. But I assure you, your girlfriend is fine, SPIDER MAN."
Peter growled. "Where is she?"
"Now now, patience, my boy. Meet me at the bridge in an hour if you want her back alive." The phone clicked as he hung up.
* * *
Abby hung from the bottom of the Brooklin Bridge, her arms bound to her sides and her body suspended by a single rope. Her wrists and bare arms were rubbed red from trying to get her arms free, and her body hurt from the ropes cutting into her sides.
Green Goblin flew over to her on his glider. "Time's almost up. It looks like your Romeo isn't going to come."
"Save your gloating for prison, Gobby," Abby spat. "He'll come. I know he will."
Goblin just laughed, though it was cut short when a web shot over his mouth, shutting him up. Spider-Man clung to a beam on the bridge above the two, glaring down at Goblin. "Let her go!"
"How about we play a little game first?" Goblin pointed across the harbor to the edge of the city, where OsCorp could be clearly seen. "On the roof of that building, there is a bomb so large it has the ability to level all of Manhattan. You can either save the city..." He glanced at Abby, who had fear written all over her face. "...or you girlfriend. You have ten seconds. Now...CHOOSE!" He threw a blade at the rope suspending Abby from the bridge, slicing straight through it and making her fall toward the water.
Ten, nine, eight...
Spider Man immediately jumped into action, swinging down toward Abby and grabbing her just before she hit the water. She hugged onto him tightly as he swung back up, putting her down on the bridge.
...seven, six, five...
Spidey spot webs at opposite sides of the bridge and shot himself across the water, flying all the way to the roof of OsCorp. The pumpkin bomb sat perched on top of the cylindrical water tower, flashing red as it counted down. Spidey started coating it with webs, hoping it would hold back the blast when it blew.
...four, three, two...
He coated the bomb until his webshooters were just about empty, then jumped off the building before the bomb blew.
...ONE!
The pumpkin exploded, though thanks to the webs, it did no damage, even if the webs themselves were blown sky high and covered the buildings within three blocks of OsCorp. Spider Man would hear it from Jameson later on that day.
Abby stood at the edge of the bridge, watching the entire ordeal with a gaping mouth. She was still watching the debris from the bomb fly everywhere, so she didn't notice Spidey come up behind her until he tapped her on the shoulder.
She whirled around, and not a second later grabbed Spider Man in a hug, her face buried in his neck as tears streamed from her eyes. "I didn't think you'd come..."
"Of course I came," he said, hugging her back. He was silent for a moment. "So...about our date..."
Abby broke the hug and looked at him, a teary, playful smile on her lips. She lifted up his mask, and gave him a kiss, feeling like nothing would ruin this moment as she draped her arms around his neck.
Spidey kissed back, smiling a little, wrapping his arms around her waist.
Off in the distance, the megatrons in Times Square blared, all with J. Jonah Jameson's face on it. He was going on again about 'Spider Man the Menace,' and Spidey could hear every word of it. But he didn't give a darn. All that mattered was this moment with Abby.
