Funny[to me] how the racial classification evokes the Caucasus Mountains[not the genetic source; do you know the history?]
Funny also, that the 'coveted' WASP-epithet has no reference to lightness of skin.
Facts are, that Jews can be anything[genetically], but eschew consciously, allowing 'Caucasians' to convert to Judaism.
Also factual, is the confusion over what diaspora means[& when it occurred]; Sephardim & Ashkenazim are not just like oil & water[allusion to Zionist movement post-WWII/Palestinian unrest, while still British State]; there are racial distinctions, which come along with widely different cultural perspectives[kind of like Hindu/Muslim division in India, going back to 19th century]. The term Sephardic Jews, in academia, is meant to describe a Judaic people, scattered abroad by the Spanish Inquisition[or absorbed into Spanish society, by converting to Roman Catholicism]. In 20th century Israel, the Sephardic-epithet is 'associated with' less-than pristinely light-skin, by the former Poles, Russians & Americans, all of which are not Ashkenazi. Ashkenazi['European'] Jews were the primary victims of the Holocaust, severely reducing their numbers and economic influence. The remnant, was the major component of those tough guerillas, that fought there way onshore in post-war, British-controled Palestine, and fought even harder, to remain there, and bring ashore mre 'remnant' Ashkenazi! American Jews, mostly financially independent-sorts, began returning to their traditional homeland[where their US-communities had been sending butt-loads of financial aid for two long years, before the British Mandate 'expired' May 15, 1948] in significant numbers, only after the establishment of the current State of Israel. Both genetically, and especially culturally, these immigrants from America make-up a third [new]component, of the political milieu, vying for dominance in the Knesset.

Most American Jews, that have preserved for the most part, their genetic heritage[through carefully uniting families in their own 'local' communities, through marriage], are Ashkenazi, and physically similar in appearance[giving rise to the stereotypical Jew in bigotted American pea-sized brains].
