Another Day

Another day, another morning. Another sigh as I got up from my bed. Slowly, but surely, I got dressed and looked at myself in the mirror. Eh. It will work. I was not all that disgusted with how I looked that day, which was a surprise. Opening the door greeted me immediately with the sound of two guys yelling. I exhaled and hobbled down the stairs. As soon as I got to the main level, I knew right away that I had forgotten to do half of my homework. Of course I would so something like that.

Another rush. The sound of yelling continues, adding the sound of a much older man and woman into the mix. Hurriedly, I grabbed something to eat, scooped my lunch from the fridge, and yelled at my brothers to get a move on. We were already late as it was. The ride consisted of small instances of a laugh from a pair of headphones and the rain hitting the windshield at Mock 2.

Another weekday. School was the opposite of the car ride. No one was silent for a second. At least one rebellious student always rivaled the teacher's voice in their presentation. I rushed to complete my homework during the period before the class I had forgotten about. The teacher dismissed us, leaving me with a sinking feeling that I would drop a letter grade because of that unrecalled assignment.

Another hallway. A wave of chattering echoed through the hallway, hundreds of people walking at a time. My stomach churned, as I wanted to tell someone I liked them, but I gave up, realizing that if I told them, it would never come true.

Another moment at home. The guys went to their respective places in front of a screen as I sat in my room, thinking about how many times I messed up that day. The voices yelled in my head, reminding me of all the things I could have done better. Every atrocious memory swirled and grew, magnifying to the point where I thought that day was one of the most horrific days ever.

Another night. I lied in bed, thinking that tomorrow was going to be a better day. Sure, everything was hectic today, and Murphy's Law had followed me wherever I went. However, something in the back of my head told me that this was just a fluke of a day. I closed my eyes, hoping that this nightmare would be over.

But, that was just another day.

I sent this in to a Literary Magazine, and it did pretty well. So, I decided to share it.
